Rashford Ends Tough First VHL Season

It was a very forgettable first season in the VHL for the young David Rashford. Playing on the Moscow Menace, he was called up to showcase his talents at the top level (likely before he was ready) due to the trust of his GM and the desire for him to kickstart his career sooner than later. While the plan was admirable, the results were anything but. After 72 games, Rashford scored 11 goals and added 17 assists for 28 points and, shockingly, finished at -48 on the season. Let's put things into perspective - it's not the absolute worst stat line in the league and for a rookie on a team that flirted with last place there are certainly some small positives that can be taken from it. However, what's important to note is that Moscow are a team that should be getting much better come next season. They already have a few prospects ready and eager to make the jump along with a number of high draft picks that will continue to fuel their prospect pipeline. The VHL is a business and you don't get endless chances to make an impact. While Rashford should manage to find a home somewhere around the league, he's aware that if he gets a shot to play next year on Moscow (which is not a guarantee), then he absolutely has to make it count.
