Grape 739
There comes a time, for me at least, when you hit sort of a wall with your player mentally. You earn and you build up and you create the player you want to be and at some point, you just kind of stop caring about them that much. May it be you’ve reached the desired point with them or you get lost in the process. For me, it’s two blows. Firstly, when you reach the point in the build where the diminishing returns on TPE hit HARD, like, pouring 50 TPE into a stat just to bring it up by 1 point hard. Sure, I get it. Somewhere along the journey you have to ramp it up. Can’t be ticking up stats 3 TPE at a time since you’d simply run out of things to upgrade fairly quickly. But that doesn’t make it any easier. Sure, going from 95 DEF to 99 should take a lot of TPE to get to, but goddamn almost 250 is just painful and overall just not worth it. So you go and pivot to the next thing until THAT costs a ludicrous amount, and rinse and repeat until you want to blow your head off. In a way I sort of lucked out with forcing myself to stay down in the M for a season, which helped me avoid hitting that cycle as hard as I did. Even still though, it’s pretty unmotivating to jump in and max earn for a week and that TPE simply not doing anything. ON TOP OF THAT, now the first round of depreciation has come and I was woefully unprepared for it since I thought I had one more season and Spraytan didn’t tell me about it till we got eliminated in the playoffs. I got my blockers and whatnot but seeing it get tanked by a nice 160 TPE is a bummer since I was like 20 TPE away from reaching my final build. So I start reapplying and building back up but NO I need to bank for next depreciation. It’s all just so tiresome. Just being stuck in neutral with this player now, earning every week just for progress to be shoved back down. Late players feel like Sisyphus. With Moscow while for this season I’d still be numero uno on defense, holy shit is Woods growing like crazy. He will most definitely pass me by the end of the season. Then we got a 1A/1B situation going into next season but another youngin in Harrington will likely be sprouting up like crazy. My final season is a big question mark for me, since I don’t know what dark salary cap magic needs to be done to keep me there. It would be stupid to trade someone else to make room for me, since I’m gone after that season anyways. I’ve also said that if I get traded I’ll straight up retire, and I am not someone who goes back on their word. If I know that trade is coming too you bet your ass I’m not buying blockers or applying for that final season. Even then, I’d hold off on recreating until I edge into the S100 class. A big thing is just waiting. I’m just kind of done with this player. It’s hard to be motivated to earn and claim. I’ve had some struggles just having the time and inspiration to do the big tasks for this current player. There’s no lore building or personality. I’ve got like what, 5 more months of this guy? I’m stuck building up Borecoge till like late February. I really just want to jump right into my next player. I’ve been working on and planning for my next player for a very long time now. Hell, I made their build pretty much immediately after I made my current player. I have media spots lined up and ready. If people found my antics this season annoying or stupid, oh boy they are in for it big time with this next one. The big kicker is, this is gonna be a player for S100, and if I decide I’m done with Bocage now, I gotta do something for those 5 months leading up to it. I could make some rando shitter player that helps Ottawa for a bit but ehhh, not necessarily something I’d want to do, mainly since they’d have to go through the draft cycle (unless I do the dyl thing and just recreate again) and probably make some stupid or new GM pick me because “hey look at their last player” and then I’d feel bad and invest too much time into them. I don’t really know. I’m just rambling on and putting my thoughts out. Not going to bother formatting this. Enjoy the block of text and I’ll enjoy the 6 TPE. I could stretch this out to 1000 words to get the yummy two weeks but, just like my current player, I just want to be done with this and not come back to it. I’m happy that I’ve built an actual good player for once and am winning awards, but it’s not really me. The meme builds are fun. Shawty was a goofy player at a goofy time and I loved that. Vladovechsenkchushkin (didn’t even look it up or copy paste. Might of gotten it wrong but if I didn’t, subtle flex) started out as a pure goon and then the hybrid attributes came out and I already put in the legwork to figure out how that worked that I just decided to go with a good build, and they were a good player. First player to hit depreciation for me as well, and I remember I retired pretty much immediately after. Motivation just drains away. I’ll probably write up some decent little breakdown of personal life changes correlating with my players, since it’s kind of interesting how it works, but I’m gonna end off here so I’m edging 1000 words perfectly. Spartan 4,531
It's tough to work through depreciation, especially if it's your first time actually doing it. A big part of the challenge in the VHL about having a good player is 1. of course, getting there in the first place - it takes a lot of time and effort to get anywhere close to a top player at your position, and 2. maintaining it through depreciation. While there isn't much more to be building towards, the entire goal shifts to being able to maintain a very high level of play. Bocage is in award chats as I'm sure you've expected, and personally I think he has a good chance of winning some hardware too. He's been driving Moscow's play, and now that we seem to have 2 capable forward lines, having 2 capable defense pairings is necessary too. That's where you and Woods come in. Harrington won't be at the level of Woods or yourself for a couple seasons at least, so your goal really should be to just grind out the TPE as usual and make sure that you're cementing your place as the first pairing defenseman and a top one in the league at that too. If you're not trying to make sure you're on the top, then you're not being a true competitor. Handling depreciation is the way to lock in your legacy.
