It’s the dreaded off-season (for me) and as I wait for the VHL finals to be over I struggle with what to write for my donation doubles week TPE (makes me wish I could do graphics or a podcast).  The only benefit of a longer off season is I can try to earn enough to cover my first depreciation which I think will be about 190 TPE lost to the corners of the universe.  I am currently at 151 so we will see. Anyway, I digress.  Not sure what I am going to cover for this week’s version of Around the League but I will try to make it palatable.  

 

VHLM Finals:

This year’s finals we saw two great clubs face off. Halifax coming in with an explosive offensive team while Las Vegas showed up with a team built on defense. It was interesting to see the match-up of the two styles with Vegas ultimately coming out on top in 7 games. They killed it on the power play by making almost 50 percent of their goals on the PP.  Either way , it was great battle between two great clubs and made it a fun series to watch.  Congrats to both teams.

VHL Playoffs

My beloved Vancouver Wolves were eliminated in the first round by eventual cup contenders and rival, the Seattle Bears.  They are facing off against Riga and are currently tied at 1-1.  Despite the controversy I read on the forum this week with some bot goalie stuff, Riga came to play and Seattle, as always has a great club and seem to always be put together to win.  Should be a fun series to watch, even more so with the forum chatter.  Best of luck both clubs!

 

Random stuff:

The Pro-Am is upon us and I get to play both my players, Logan Ninefingers and retired first player, Brian Payne.  Last year they were drafted together, and it was kinda fun to see both on the ice together.  It seems, you get attached to that first player, so I am hoping for the same.  If they get drafted separate, I at least hope they fight each other.   And don’t think I haven’t forgotten @VattghernCZ (Wann Kerr) about the beat down you gave Payne last year! Rematch!! 

 

I also signed up to be a GM in the World Junior tournament.   I truly don’t feel like I know what to do but going to give it a whirl. GMs like @LucyXpherLucy, @Frank, and @Ricer13 make it look so easy but hoping I can figure it out. 

 

In other news, I watched the Team USA vs Team Canada  4-nations game last night and saw a fight filled 1^st period.  Reminded me of the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.  Been a fun tournament to watch so far and I am hoping that Canada and USA face off again on Thursday for the finals.  Both are put together great and watching McDavid, Crosby, and McKinnon together was special.

I am looking forward to the Pro-Am this season as well since I remember to sign and having my best two players to date playing should be interesting!! PEB & PMB will light the tournament and also nice to see some old friends in this years tournament but could we also have a Canada & USA opening puck drop!! LOL!!

 

I must add I love the fact that 4 Nations is being stream on NHL channel on Ytube so I actually get to watch the games!!
