Tough Guys to look up to - Theme Week

The first thing I thought of when I read that theme week being “Tough Guys” was Vinny Detroit.  And then I reflected on what got me into the VHL, which was Scurvy looking at his player at the time, Brian Payne, and I could tell what mood he would be in after he checked the game stats.  He loved the fights, especially when Brian Payne won.  Listening to him explain how Brian Payne faired in the fights, who else got into fights, who was a goon, results of the games, the penalty box, etc.; that’s what got me intrigued into joining.  And I gotta say that it didn’t take long for me to get the same rush, even though it is a sim league.  Players that first caught my attention, like Vinny Detroit, Duncan Idaho, Hard Markinson, and of course Brian Payne, were all part of how I wanted to build my player.

 

Vinny Detroit was a monster.  He was 6-08, 250 pounds, and he crushed opponents.  He tallied up 3163 hits in his career.  In addition to his incredible hit stat, Detroit spent 1753 minutes in the penalty box.  I just noticed that @dasboot likes to create tough guys, as his current player, Tommy Sleeves, is outpacing Vinny Detroit with 100 fewer games on the books.  Sleeves already has 2379 hits, 1969 PIMS, and to complete the trifecta he has 1302 shots blocked.

 

Duncan Idaho was another tough guy who caught my attention when I joined the league.  He was clearly a menace with a career total of 2734 hits and 1222 penalty minutes.  Luckily for my player at the time, Jake Thunder, Idaho retired after season 84.  What also put Duncan Idaho on the list of all time greats, was his 791 points.  For @OrbitingDeath , Idaho was not his first hall of fame player.  Condor Adrienne also made the hall of fame, and he could also be considered a tough guy.  Adrienne put up 1936 hits and was in the penalty box 1417 minutes.  One difference between Adrienne and Idaho was that Adrienne blocked 1144 shots while Idaho blocked only 249.

 

Hard Markinson was a tough guy who also liked to score.  He totaled 696 points in his career, and he had 1816 hits and 1201 shots blocked.  Markinson also had his share of time in the penalty box, 1230 minutes.  This hall of fame player also liked to fight.  This appears to be @STZ‘s only tough guy created, although one would expect that FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Analfist would have had to have been a tough guy, just because of his name.

 

Brian Payne was a tough guy who made his living fighting.  He picked up fights every 8-10 games and spent enough time in the penalty box you’d think he’d learn but he didnt.  With 1684 PIMS, 2064 hits and another 1326 shots blocked, this hall of fame player was respected by opponents in the VHL, and loved by his teammates.  For being @Scurvy’s first player, I was expecting his next player, Logan Ninefingers, to be even more of a tough guy, and he’s starting to come through with his team leading hits, although Ninefingers is more focused on winning face offs.  Time will tell if the king of the north is going to be labeled a true tough guy, especially considering his fights have been few and far between.

I also had non tough guys LeBeau, Maximoff and O'Malley in the HoF   So not sure if that was the reason they were ignored haha

Yeah I was only referring to the latter, the HOF induction speaks for itself...

They were not on this link https://vhlportal.com/user/104 that I got my info from.  If they were tough guys then I didnt do you the justice that you deserved.

EDIT: checked the HOF entries and all three are registered under OD's 'secret identity'... and @OrbitingDeath  LeBeau was a netminder, don't fret Thunder that much about missing a goon in net

Dude my first player started two season ahead of Jake... but admittedly, OD and I are both European so maybe that makes me (even) more invested...
