Taking the League by Storm

The Oslo Storm have had a fantastic start to the season. With more than 20 wins and 3 total losses, they are, without a doubt, the best team in the VHLM at this point. Most games, at least one player on the Storm scores a hat trick! The Storm have taken on a new look after a change in the Head Office with GM Griffin Simons coming in. After several trades that sent away several draft picks, the Storm look like they are set to win their first Cup since S32. Let’s take a look at the team that is taking the league by STORM:

Prince Gigga-Bijou

Prince is one of the Storm’s top players at the moment. He was brought in just this season from Turku for the sole purpose of winning the Cup. He has been playing on the top line and has earned a permanent spot there. His blend of scoring skill, vision, and grit are a perfect combination for a winner.

Kyle Kingma

Kingma is a solid sniper. He was brought to Oslo in a trade with Bratislava and has proven his worth the team. He is one of the players on the Storm that will regularly score a hat trick, and almost all of his games have been multi point outings. With the task of scoring, Kyle Kingma has proven himself to be a vital part of the Oslo Storm.

Coca Cola

Tampa+Bay+Lightning+v+Carolina+Hurricane

Coca Cola is the shutdown goaltender for the Storm. He has definitely shown that he was worth the interest that Simons showed in him since he became GM. Cola played in Moscow last season and was brought to Oslo in a trade that involved his teammate Maris Ziedins. Cola is expected to start all of the Storm’s games this season. Hopefully he can keep up this outstanding play and help the Storm to the top of the league.

Theo Matsikas

Theo Matsikas was a steal for the Storm. He was drafted in the 3rd round and Simons knew that he was a special talent. The only Storm player that was born in Greece, Matsikas plays a huge role in the organization. He is top 20 in the whole VHLM in minutes played, regularly playing more than 30 minutes in a game. He is one of three defencemen  on the team, and one of the top rookies, without a doubt.

Patrick Demko

Pat was brought in as a key piece of the Storm. He was the choice of the Helsinki Titans with the 4th overall pick in the S42 VHL Entry Draft. He is playing a large portion of the minutes on the blue line along with Theo Matsikas. He has had a surprisingly good start to the season on the offensive side, as well as a tremendous defensive season. Demko will be gone to the big leagues next season, so let’s hope that he can get a cup with Oslo.

Maris Ziedins

Maris was a part of the trade that brought Cola to Oslo and is a major part of the operation here in Oslo. He is one of the team’s top scorers and is playing well over 20 minutes per game. With all of the playing time he has had, he should be tired! He has worked off his behind and hopefully we can see more of that from him in the future.
