Kendrick 4,741
Welcome back everyone to the VHLSC Draft Rankings! Last week we got to know some of the draftees a bit more as well as see a new category to our draft rankings board. This week we've combined some cutting age location insight with the draftees stories themselves to give you a full out look at where these draft eligible prospects come from. You will see the common feature where draftees themselves speak their minds and let us know about them. You will also see a map with locations of the North American born draft prospects. Next week we will conclude the "Location" theme with maps of draft prospects from other countries as well. A couple things to note about both features below. First and foremost, some of the prospects birthplaces were never disclosed and thus we have no way of knowing their origin or where exactly they were born within a certain country. Secondly, the prospects were asked this week the usual two questions and some gave us some good insight and some wrote themselves a New York Times length novel to share with us. At VHLSC we shrunk that down as no one has time to read twenty pages of work by one individual. So without further adieu here are the questions and answers: 1. What age did your player get his first skates and at what age did you know your player was good enough to try and make a career out of it? 2. Best pre-game meal and after game activity? "Where you from?" allows us to tackle different stories and aspects of all the draft hopefuls. Getting to know where each started their hockey can end up telling us why they had different idols and watched different styles. It turns out this current crop sees a majority of prospects being born around the Boston area. It seems the Bruins franchise inspired many youngsters to pick up a hockey stick and now we see them try to use that stick at a professional level. Interestingly enough New York also sees the same type of popularity and two prospects call New York their place of birth. It's possible the New York Americans had something to do with their aspirations or maybe the other dozen teams within a city block. Interesting that Iowa has a lone representative, most likely from the Des Moines area but we will never know. California has seen a rise in prospects over the last little bit with Mason Richardson of note being from Riverside, California. San Diego and San Jose figure into our map and each city lives through one prospect eligible this season. Memphis, Tennessee also factors into our graphic with one lone prospect. Not to save the best for last but possible Thrashers or Flames fan Jed Mosley hails from the city of Atlanta. North of the 49th parallel you see a huge east/west trend. Hockey seems to always be very heavy in the east coast. It seems The Montreal and Toronto area is usually populated with young hockey players aspiring to make it to the pros. London chimes into the conversation for this bunch of prospects and to their east we see Halifax also enter the picture with a prospect. Out west we only see one prospect claim draft eligibility this year, hailing from the west coast city of Vancouver. Overall it appears less prospects this year will be coming from the great hockey country of Canada. Hope you enjoyed this weeks edition of the Victory Hockey League Scouting Services draft rankings. Next week of course we bring part two with insight into other world locations including Europe and a surprising country in the Caribbean. We look forward to the prospects growing and becoming even more VHL ready for the next season as well as the conclusion of the current one.
