Boychuk Ready for the Challenge

With Season 42 coming to a close, centerman Travis Boychuk is about to have five seasons under his belt. Being in the VHL, many know the fact that retiring here after eight seasons is a must, so Travis has crossed over the line to the latter half of his career by now. With every season that goes by, there comes the challenge of taking a hit to your skill set. This Wranglers draftee has not won much during his career so far, with the highlight probably being his winning of rookie of the year, earning the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy. There was also his Silver Medal in the S37 World Cup. All of this being in mind, Boychuk is gearing up for a post-season with a team that is his best one yet.

Being a Calgary Wrangler for his first three seasons, there was not a whole lot of promise on those clubs for a Continental Cup. In Season 40, analysts and especially the Quebec City Meute will recall a reverse sweep in their series that had Calgary win in seven games. Not technically a reverse sweep, since Calgary won Game One, but then Quebec City had taken the next three games so it was expected that the Wranglers would lose. Nobody expected Calgary to come out on top at all, but it was a nice send off to veteran Thomas Landry who carried the team for that season. That was basically all she wrote for Calgary though, as they were quite handily dealt with by the New York Americans in five games.

Last season in Season 41, the Meute headed into the year with a new looking roster. Boychuk was a piece of that and he manned the second line, looking to push this Quebec squad to new heights. With a promising season heavily carried by Aksel Thomassen and Bruno Wolf, Travis Boychuk and the Meute looked like they had offense that was unstoppable. Just like the season prior though, Boychuk suffered another five game series loss to the Americans. In Season 41, Quebec City was a solid team, but New York always seemed to be their downfall. With all that said and done, it was off to another season.

Now here we are in Season 42, and with a few games remaining, the Quebec City Meute has earned themselves the Victory Cup. Having the best record during the season is definitely something to be proud of, but it's not what teams look for as seasons go by. That goal is obviously the Continental Cup, which this season is being defended by the New York Americans. Quebec City this season is once again being carried by Thomassen and Wolf, with newcomer Milos Denis skating alongside them on the top line. The second line is again being centered by Boychuk, with Jakobssen still on the team as well, while rookie Ryan Cattrall skates alongside them.

There just seems to be something different about this season though. Things are looking more promising in Meute Land. This season, Quebec isn't having as tough of a time against New York as they usually have. In the season series thus far, the Meute are 4-3-0 against them. Both teams have had their lopsided wins as well, with the Americans winning 7-2 early in the season, and most recently in Quebec's last game, Quebec won 6-2. The Meute are 19-2-2 in their last 23 games and are riding a seven game winning streak at the moment. With only two games left, it will be interesting to see what happens in those final games against Helsinki and New York. Quebec gets a buy into the 2nd Round with their 1st in the Conference, and that will likely be against New York. The finals will likely be against Helsinki, which makes these final two games more than what they are.

Nothing is ever a given though in the VHL, but it will be a big story to watch and see if Travis Boychuk can solidify some kind of legacy in his final seasons.

Actually that's entirely wrong. The reason I use LA pictures is because that's the team that is used for the Meute on our Player Cards. I don't like the LA Kings at all, because I'm a big Canucks fan.
