Taron's Take On The VHLm

It is no secret that after this latest recruiting class, and the current state of the VHLm in the last couple of seasons, we must come forward and present some potential ideas. Coming here as a "noob" again has brought forth many questions from me, and we must work harder to retain and entertain new prospects throughout their journey. I have been talking to a couple of people who are VHLm players agree that something must be changed. Let me reiterate that I have only been here for about a week as of now and I already have some ideas flowing.

Contract The VHLm Again

I am pretty sure that many of you may be opposed to this, but hear me out. The VHLm is the redheaded illegitimate child of the VHL. It is the walk through hell before you ascend into heaven. I think one thing that made the SHL such a big thing for me is how great my experience was in the SMJHL. I think if we can make the VHLm extremely fun and competitive then we can establish a very solid minor leagues. I think that we must contract the league into five teams. One conference, five teams and an extremely competitive league.

There are positives and negatives for contracting the league, but I feel as though the positives outweigh the negatives by a lot. First, lets look at the bright side and then I will counter all of the negative arguments I could come up with. To start it off, five teams means that the prospects will be familiar with each other because they play a lot. Also this makes the draft very important instead of something that goes downhill after the first half the picks. The teams will now have multiple shots and securing a top prospect. I feel the main issue with the VHLm is that it is spread so thin that the competition is lackluster and each year that there are two to three teams that dominate and the prospects on the other teams sit idle for the draft.

Another positive to contracting is the locker room activity. Lets be honest only two or so teams in the VHLm have a legitimate locker room. By contracting we will be able to create more active locker rooms which will make more new prospects participate in discussions thus making them want to make point tasks, which then deepens the drafts.

Now lets look at the negatives; contracting the VHLm will make playing time even harder to find and prospects will become upset and leave. I feel this is the only counterargument from my proposal that may make sense. Sadly, this will not happen in my opinion. There needs to be some sort of competition for the prospects or else they will be content. And regardless there are not enough prospects to create this problem yet. We can always re-expand if the issue occurs but sadly I do not think that will occur.

Here is my last argument for contracting the VHLm to five teams -- GM's will need to be more active to keep the team together and in turn will be hyperactive in trying to force prospects to be active. I know this sounds kind of pushy on my part, but the VHLm teams will be very competitive and a rebuild will mean a lot more given how many shots a GM has at drafting a good player. More trades will be made due to the influx of active players and GM's have more pieces to move. Draft picks will actually mean something -- even if they are not a first round pick! The VHLm will actually end up being like a mini-VHL!

How Can This Work?

Here is my map out to having a five team league. There will be one conference, four teams make the playoffs. The draft will work entirely the same way except now each pick means a lot more and good GM's are rewarded. Each GM can elect a Co-GM to make up for the fact that the team contracted. Players from contracting teams will go into a "contraction" draft. The draft order would be randomized.

I cannot think of any other questions to answer -- so please discuss below and share your opinions. Thanks for reading!

(Inspired by countless prospects I have talked to over the past few days).

This season has been particularly bad in terms of bad teams because S44 draft is so shallow so far and most send-downs are gone now. Though another contraction might be the best option I'd like to see how 8 teams do with more players.

same, and this series of mine should be discussion based since these are potential changes we can see.

I think even with a good recruiting class less teams is better.

Content: 3/3 - Good on the word count. Everything's fine here.

Grammar: 2/2 - a few little things, but nothing I'm going to dock for. I never really dock on grammar unless it's ridiculous anyways, which this isn't. You're new as well here, so slack will be given. :P

"a couple of people who are VHLm players agree that something must be changed" - who agree that something must...

"establish a very solid minor leagues" - establish a very solid minor league/establish very solid minor leagues

"after the first half the picks" - first half of the picks

"multiple shots and securing a top prospect" - OF securing a top prospect

"Now lets look at the negatives" - let's (it's a contraction of 'let us')

"or else they will be content" - or else they won't be content. Why would they be content without competition?

Appearance: 1/1 - I'll let the no pictures slide, as you stated you had problems.

Overall: 6/6
