Boychuk Picks Up His Game

Over the past little while the Quebec City Meute have been in a bit of a struggle, and were looking to turn things around and get more consistent. In their last 5 games they are 3-2-0, which is average to say the least, and in their last 10 they are 5-4-1. Those numbers are not strong for a club which was competing in the VHL Finals last season, although every team can hit a patch of mediocrity. The Meute are currently sitting 3 points back of the Seattle Bears for the top spot in the North American Conference. Even so, that is only good enough for 5th in the entire league. Interestingly enough, 3 teams are tied at 44 points with 21-7-2 records, being Seattle, Stockholm, and Davos. The Cologne Express still hold the top spot, although a slim one, with the 23-5-2 record.

Now comes my main focus of this article, in which we will be digging into the numbers of Quebec City's second line center, Travis Boychuk. In his past 5 games, he's put up 8 points, with 4 of those being goals, and has been climbing the VHL rankings in different categories. In that same 5 game span, he has managed to put up 44 shots and 13 hits as well, delivering a well balanced game for his club to lean on him for.

So far in the first 30 games of Season 43, the Meute look to be sporting a different kind of output from their squad. The most interesting thing to note is that Aksel Thomassen and Bruno Wolf are 3rd and 4th in team scoring, not 1 and 2 like they have shown in previous seasons. Sitting atop Quebec for scoring is defenseman Jake Wylde, with 5 goals and 38 assists giving him 43 points. Stellar production for a newcomer defender to dawn the black and white jersey. Coming up close for 2nd though, is Travis Boychuk. Boychuk has 41 points in 30 games, including 20 goals, showing that his age will not hold him back from earning top numbers in the league.

Boychuk, with 20 goals is looking great among goal scorers, sitting only 1 goal behind his teammate Bruno Wolf. Bruno won the trophy for scoring goals in the past couple of seasons, so Travis Boychuk only being 1 behind right now is definitely a sight to see. Jody 3 Moons is holding down the top spot in the goals category with 22, which is only 2 better than Boychuk. 3 Moons is having a superb season thus far on his new team in Stockholm, and it will be interesting to watch whether these 3 players in 3 Moons, Boychuk and Wolf will continue to stay beside each other in the race. They are not the only ones doing well in that group as well, as Sachimo Zoidberg is tied with Boychuk for 20, and 5 players are tied with 19.

Regarding special teams, Boychuk is the VHL's best in power play goals, holding down the fort with 9. He also has 4 game winners, and 2 game tiers. Travis Boychuk has shown that he can not only play well 5-on-5, but he can also shine on the power play, and he has done so even better than the top line from his team.

Boychuk currently is holding the 6th spot in VHL scoring as well, being 8 points behind league leading Xin Xie Xiao. All of this seems to have come at a price though for this star centerman, as he is one of the VHL's most hit players right now. Boychuk has been hit 105 times in only 30 games, which goes to show that the man can take a hit to make a play, or power through the physicality to get a goal.

Although his game has been strong, analysts will wonder if he can continue this all season. It is not as if he hasn't been a top contributor in the league before either, as he's hit the 100 point milestone twice in his career.
