Tylar 219 Posted July 31, 2015 Share Posted July 31, 2015 Gettin' Wild in the Crease Weinstein struggling at the beginning of the season in a game against the Yukon Rush Ariel Weinstein is a goaltender from Israel current playing for the Saskatoon Wild of the VHLM. He joined the VHL system at the season 43 trade deadline and was picked up on waivers by the Ottawa Lynx. He only played 3 games during his stint as he played behind the highly touted Greg Clegane. In those three games he put up a 2-0-1 record with a .935 save percentage. He did not play in the play-offs at all for the Lynx as they rode Clegane. After a promising stint in the VHLM he was drafted 6th overall by the Saskatoon Wild in the VHLM Dispersal Draft. Weinstein was one of four goalies in a very strong draft class. He is a very raw prospect who oozes top end potential and he comes from a highly rated player agency. He is a big goaltender standing at 6 foot 3 inches and weighing 220 pounds. The beginning of the season was difficult for Weinstein as the goalie struggled to keep pucks out of the net, but the team was winning. He was leaking goals in low shot total games which left him with a mid-.800 save percentage. Weinstein began to get hard on himself for his poor performances and was upset about his stat line. This trend continues for the first few weeks of the season with constant .850 save percentage performances as the Wild played a difficult part of their schedule which included many games against the Oslo Storm and their division rivals, the Yukon Rush. But after the tough stretch at the beginning, the Wild began to play against the middle of the pack teams and lower end teams which have helped Weinstein gain some confidence. His record currently stands at 51-4-2, which shows how good the Saskatoon Wild have been in front of him but the statistics also show how well Weinstein has been playing as of late. He has now gone up to a .908 save percentage and a 1.29 goals against average along with 21 shutouts. The strong play of Weinstein has allowed the Wild to start separating themselves at the top of the standings with help from strong goaltending. The Wild have recently played the Yukon Rush and Oslo Storm respectively and Weinstein has got a shutout and allowed one goal in those two games which Saskatoon went onto win. Then yesterday afternoon Weinstein posted back to back shutouts over the Lynx and Rush. His stats are sky rocketing along with the teams win Column. Although Weinstein is not the perfect goalie right now, some VHL team is going to get themselves a solid goaltender for years to come. Weinstein will most likely be up in the VHL next year unless something weird happens. Although this draft is stacked with talent, Weinstein should still go somewhere in the first round but it is possible he could fall to the second but it’s highly unlikely. When Weinstein is on his game he’s almost unbeatable, with a strong team in front of him Weinstein will shine and play extremely well. I think it's very hard for goalies in the junior level since there's only so much tpe to add so it is a struggle.
