gorlab 4,321
the text is pretty much unreadable, I thought it was just a random stock or brush for the longest time. The render has 0 editing/effects done to it. An easy way to achieve a better looking render is to create a transparent layer over the render layer, then select the pixels of the render, and on that new transparent layer, paint a grey colour over the render... Then set this layer mode to OVERLAY and maybe play with the opacity of the layer. It's a good sharpening technique. You could also use a filter plugin like topaz on the render to give it more of an effect / better look. In the above sig, the render just stands out too much from the rest of the sig, IMO (it's brighter than everything else), Maybe try to add some adjustment layers ontop of the entire sig (such as gradient map, exposure, vibrance, levels, curves, etc.). Adding these and changing their layer type / masking(deleting) some of the layer where it doesn't look good, helps to bring the sig together. I also think the render is too small for the signature. Should touch both top & bottom of sig, in most cases. Right now, the render takes up like less than 1/4th of the total space on the signature, which leave it looking way too empty. The render should be like 50% of the total space of the sig, or more, in like 99% of sigs. gorlab 4,321
Curves is also a good adjustment layer too improve lighting of a sig. Make a new transparent sig, use a fuzzy brush to paint black around the edges and then maybe a fuzzy brush to click once or twice to create a light source. Then you can use CURVES to make it look good (it tkes experimenting, but mainly you click in the middle of the diagonal line/graph in the curves adjustment, and move it around... You can click in multiple places and effect lighting / contrast / other stuff) DollarAndADream and STZ 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/22987-cnc-me-please-i-need-to-get-beter-then-a-fucking-5/#findComment-256043 Share on other sites
NUCK 151
Funny thing is I have done almost all of what you said here to this sig. Curves, gradient map layer and so on, I think I have all most hit the limits of what Gimp can do. I couldn't find a good font to use in my list but thought it was ok. And yes I agree it is hard to see what it says right off the bat. IDK I am just getting so frustrated as I feel as if I cant hurdle that last hump to greatness. This is what I was trying to imitate. gorlab 4,321
hmm, maybe try to use the BURN/DODGE technique boubabi showed me u create a new transparent layer over the render, select the pixels of the render, paint it grey, and set it to overlay (which I think I explained above) but THEN you take the BURN/DODGE tool (i think BURN is the one that darkens) and 'paint' on that grey overlay layer you created, to make the shadows darker, and then u can use DODGE to make the light areas lighter) See how on the sig you linked that u were emulating, the render's contrast between light & shadow is very pronounced. His head/shoulders clearly show light reflecting, while his body, for the most part, is much darker.... I can sort of see this on your sig, but the body of the hockey player render is still way too bright. Also, the 'text' on the sig you were trying to emulate is wayyyyy more advanced than you would think. it looks like it's at least 2-3 text layers PER line... Some of which were set to overlay or maybe hard light or something, to get it that effect (whereas yours just looks like one text layer alone, i think) Finally, I think in the emulation sig, his background makes good use of BLURRING to give it depth, some of the layers appear to have been gaussian blurred, whereas all of your background layers are not, which makes it kind of appear to all be on the same 'level' (in terms of depth). Maybe gaussian blurring some elements of your background, along with making the right/bottom/left edges much darker (almost completely black, like the reference signature) could help it. ultimately tho, I have no idea im just making suggestions Munk 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/22987-cnc-me-please-i-need-to-get-beter-then-a-fucking-5/#findComment-256741 Share on other sites
