TheLastOlympian07 2,388
Welcome back for the 3rd installment of our series here. The new matchup will be a surprise for you all because well, I said so. All you need to know is that Chad Murphy is going to be apart if it. General Manager - D Chad Murphy Career Awards: Season 19 Terrance Fong Trophy winner with HC Davos Dynamo (formally Vladimir Kostka Trophy) Season 20 Continental Cup winner with HC Davos Dynamo Season 20 Victory Cup winner with HC Davos Dynamo Season 20 Devon Marlow-Marta Trophy winner with HC Davos Dynamo (formally Punch Imlach Trophy) Season 21 Terrance Fong Trophy winner with HC Davos Dynamo (formally Vladimir Kostka Trophy) Season 22 European Conference All-Star Selection Season 24 Continental Cup winner with the HC Davos Dynamo Season 24 Terrence Fong Trophy winner with the HC Davos Dynamo (formally Vladimir Kostka Trophy) Season 18 Statistics: S18 (DAV) - 72 GP / 10 G / 30 A / 40 P / -5 / 143 PIM / 156 H / 120 SH / 1 GWG Playoffs: S18 (DAV) - 0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 P / 0 / 0 PIM / 0 H / 0 SH / 0 GWG Chad Murphy jumped straight to the VHL after his Agent/GM signed him up to play in the VHL. In his first season he put up 10 goals and 30 assists for 40 points. This is pretty good for a VHL rookie in my opinion. The team was a very decent too so to step up and contribute at such a young age speaks volumes about him. Despite the good season from the youngsters, HC Davos were not able to make the playoffs. They finished 3rd, 7 points out of 2nd place which was held by the Riga Reign. Season 19 Statistics: Regular Season: S19 (DAV) - 72 GP / 5 G / 30 A / 35 P / +26 / 113 PIM / 126 H / 102 SH / 1 GWG Playoffs: S19 (DAV) - 10 GP / 1 G / 2 A / 3 P / -3 / 23 PIM / 30 H / 13 SH / 0 GWG Davos made a huge turnaround in Murphy's 2nd season as they finished 1st in the European Conference. They also finished just 6 points out of the Victory Cup as Calgary won the Regular Season Championship. Murphy however, regressed a little bit as he scored 5 goals and assisted on 30 for 35 points. The Dynamo first played the Riga Reign in the playoffs. They dispatched them in a hard fought 6 game series. Davos then moved on the face the Calgary Wranglers in the finals where they were brushed aside in a 4 game sweep. Chad Murphy had an ok playoff in which he scored 1 goal and 2 assists for 3 points in 10 games. It seems to me Murphy suffered a little by via the sophomore jinx. Season 20 Statistics: Regular Season: S20 (DAV) - 72 GP / 32 G / 39 A / 71 P / +43 / 110 PIM / 240 H / 229 SH / 7 GWG Playoffs: S20 (DAV) - 14 GP / 3 G / 3 A / 6 P / +1 / 38 PIM / 54 H / 35 SH / 0 GWG After Season 19, Chad Murphy and management made the decision to move him into a forward position as it was an area of need. As of Season 20, Chad Murphy was a left winger after starting his career as a defenceman. His first season as a LW went pretty well as he scored 32 goals and assisted on 39 for a total of 71 points. The Dynamo also won the Victory Cup this year after finishing 2nd in Season 19. They finished 2 points up on the Toronto Legion and 3 points up on the Riga Reign. Speaking of the Riga Reign, the Dynamo faced them in a hard fought 7 game series. The Dynamo prevailed and went on to play the North American Champs, the Toronto Legion. After a grueling 7 game series again, the Dynamo prevailed and won the Continental Cup. Chad Murphy however, had only 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points in 14 games. He was more than a point per game in the regular season but he somewhat fell off the map in the playoffs. Season 21 Statistics: Regular Season: S21 (DAV) - 72 GP / 40 G / 43 A / 83 P / +18 / 161 PIM / 278 H / 386 SH / 4 GWG Playoffs: S21 (DAV) - 11 GP / 3 G / 10 A / 13 P / -1 / 20 PIM / 66 H / 64 SH / 1 GWG Murphy stepped his game up for sure in Season 21. He scored 40 goals and assisted on 43 for 83 points. This of course was a career high. The Dynamo fell off a bit from last year but still managed to make the playoffs as the 2nd seed in the European Conference. They barely made it though as they were tied with the Helsinki Titans on points with 86 but made it in the playoffs due to having more wins. In the playoffs they again faced off against an old foe in the form of the Riga Reign. The Reign finished 1st with 96 points and were expected to win the series. Nobody told the Dynamo that as they upset the Reign in 6 games to move onto their 2nd final in as many years. The Dynamo moved on to face another familiar foe in the Toronto Legion, who they defeated last year in the finals. This year though the Legion boasted Voitu Jannula whom the Dynamo had the year prior. Despite the heroic point totals by Murphy the Dynamo fell in 5 games. Chad scored 3 goals but assisted on 10 for a total of 13 points. Is it safe to say Chad Murphy had arrived in the VHL? Season 22 Statistics: Regular Season: S22 (DAV) - 72 GP / 31 G / 32 A / 63 P / -3 / 143 PIM / 353 H / 373 SH / 8 GWG Playoffs: S22 (DAV) - 7 GP / 5 G / 1 A / 6 P / -3 / 12 PIM / 27 H / 36 SH / 0 GWG Chad Murphy looked primed for an even bigger breakout after topping 40 goals and 80 points in Season 21. In Season 22 he regressed down to 31 goals and 32 assists for 63 points. He finished 5th in team scoring as a result. The team however, backed by the strong goaltending of Daisuke Kanou finished tied for 1st with 99 points with the Helsinki Titans. Since Helsinki though finished with 1 more win in regulation they finished first and got home ice advantage in the playoffs. The Dynamo could not prevail as they lost in a hard fought 7 game series. Murphy scored 5 goals and assisted on 1 for 6 points. Season 23 Statistics: Regular Season: S23 (DAV) - 72 GP / 38 G / 43 A / 81 P / +35 / 167 PIM / 250 H / 385 SH / 7 GWG Playoffs: S23 (DAV) - 6 GP / 2 G / 1 A / 3 P / -1 / 16 PIM / 21 H / 30 SH / 0 GWG Chad Murphy seems to be having a roller-coaster career altrnating good years and bad years as in Season 23 he scored 38 goals and assisted on 43 for 81 points. A big 18 point improvement on the year before and just 2 points less than his career high. The Dynamo finished first in the European Conference this year by 4 points over the Helsinki Titans. Many thought this would be the year the Dynamo got back to the finals but it was all for naught as they fell to the Titans in a 6 game series. Murphy decided to do his disappearing act as he only scored 2 goals and assisted on 1 for 3 points. Season 24 Statistics: Regular Season: S24 (DAV) - 72 GP / 26 G / 21 A / 47 P / +46 / 106 PIM / 286 H / 217 SH / 5 GWG Playoffs: S24 (DAV) - 11 GP / 5 G / 3 A / 8 P / +4 / 16 PIM / 40 H / 35 SH / 2 GWG Chad had a good season last year so you know what he would have this year? A bad year. He only scored 26 goals and assisted on 21 for 46 points. This was his lowest totals since moving to forward in Season 20. The Dynamo still continued their dominance and finished 1st in the European Conference again. This set up a match up with the Helsinki Titans who finished 9 points behind them in the standings. The playoffs came around and they surprisingly beat the Titans in 5 games. They went into the finals to face the Aiden Shaw led Toronto Legion. They would go on to beat the Legion in a 6 game series to claim the Continental Cup. Chad Murphy scored 5 goals and had 3 assists for 8 points in 11 games. He retired on top of the mountain as he hung up his skates in Season 24. Career Statistics: Regular Season: Career (DAV) - 504 GP / 182 G / 238 A / 420 P / +160 / 943 PIM / 1689 H / 1812 SH / 33 GWG Playoffs: Career (DAV) - 59 GP / 19 G / 20 A / 39 P / -3 / 125 PIM / 238 H / 213 SH / 3 GWG Chad Murphy had a very good career. He was not a world beater who put up monstrous seasons year after year. He was a very good role player/2nd liner. His point totals equal as such as he was just under a point per game player with 420 in 504 games played. He was just the guy every team needs as that last piece of the puzzle to put them over the top as a depth player.
