Zach On Fire

Just 16 games into the season for the Bern Royals of the VHLM, they happen to be sitting in a nice spot with a record of 12-4-0. What may come as a big surprise to many, is that 10 of those games have been against the Yukon Rush. Every single one of those games was a blowout for Bern, as they dominated the Rush, winning them all. While this maybe hinders the wow factor of their record so far, they still have been impressive amongst the league. They have the most goals scored in the minor system with 81, and the biggest goal differential with 52. With statistics like that, the Royals are considered one of the favourites to win it all.

While Bern has had input from all members of their team, much of the reason for their successes so far are because of star left winger, Zach Parechkin. Parechkin was the 1st Overall pick in the VHLM Dispersal Draft in the off-season, and it has paid off greatly for his team. What you get with Zach is a big and strong power forward with pro-level shot, which many consider better than many players in the VHL.

While Parechkin has definitely carried the team in his own way, this has not been all an individual effort. Alongside him are amazing upcoming talents like Jeff Hamilton, Sean Blacker, Mathieu Baptiste, Jordan Maverick, and Kol Mikaelson. Not to count out Benjamin Tumack, Jon Panik, Jayden Fasth, Alessandro Hedfors, and goaltender Ryan Price either, as they have all been phenomenal working as a team as well.

Zach Parechkin at this very moment leagues the league in many categories. He sits atop the VHLM with 42 points in 16 games, five more than his teammate Jeff Hamilton at second overall. That counts for more than two points-per-game, which is more than any coach could ask for at this level. Aside from having the most points in the league, he also carries the torch for the most goals with 17. He has scored at a goal-per-game pace, and continues to develop as time goes on.

Not only does he lead the league in points and goals, but he is also fourth in assists with 25, which is only four behind his Bern teammate Jeff Hamilton for first overall. With his deadly shot putting him first in the league, and his passing bringing him close to first as well, there is no telling what kind of numbers he will continue to put up heading forward. On top of that, he also leads in points-per-20-minutes, with 1.83 and as well as the shot category with 146. That many shots in only 16 games seems a little crazy, but it is not hard to imagine him in front of the leaderboards in goals when you think about that. He is also second in PP goals, second in game winning goals, first in hat tricks, and 10th in plus/minus. In the categories in which he is not in first, he is not far off from being there and it is definitely a possibility in the upcoming games.

One has to wonder though if this kind of production will continue for Zach Parechkin. While he easily possesses an elite level talent in the VHLM, those 10 games against the Yukon Rush were padding his stats. Towards the end of the season, it will be interesting to see where he is at within the leaderboards of the offensive stat categories. The true question will be if he can show up for all of the big and important games, and if he can stay being a threat in the post-season.
