A&W Bear Chronicles: Deschamps taking a beating

VHL.com Newswire

A&W, SEATTLE, WASH. -- S45 has been an uneven one for the Brampton Blades who have a comfortable handle on second place in the VHLM's North American conference despite a .500 record.

For Blades' centre Maxime Deschamps, it's been a little more painful at times, almost as if the young French centre is a marked man out there.

Despite being a fairly poor offensive forward, even by VHLM standards, Deschamps has fallen victim to no less than 77 body checks this season - that's seventh most in the league if you're keeping count.

For Blades observers, this is especially surprising given that Deschamps rarely touches the puck. The 19-year-old centre is better known for his two-way play and defensive acumen. So why is he taking the brunt of so much VHLM frustration? According to Deschamps, it's because he's French.

"The other players in the league, they're definitely jealous," Deschamps said. "In France, we have Paris, we've got beautiful girls, I'm bi-lingual, there's a lot to be jealous of. For guys playing up in the Yukon, can you blame them? Have you ever been there?!"

Rebuttal aside, you can see that the physical effects are taking a toll on Deschamps.

Don't worry, Maxime. We'll send a double teen burger your way.

Until next time, keep your glasses frozen and your root beer full.
