Kesler 1,514
ROOKIE PROFILE – TOM LINCOLN Name : Tom Lincoln Position : Center Age : 18 Height : 5’11 Weight : 200lbs Handness : Left Hometown : Vancouver, BC THE START Tom Lincoln was born in beautiful British Columbia. One day when Tom was very little, his dad took him to the local rink and started to teach his son how to skate. He was a natural and his dad knew from that day on that he would become a hockey player. Fast tracking to when Tom was 16 years old, he was drafted by the Vancouver Giants (his hometown team) where he would play in the CHL until he was old enough to declare his eligibility into the VHL. Skating: One of the first things that come to mind as a pro when speaking about Tom Lincoln is his skating. He is a silky smooth skater that can turn on a dime, making him a deadly threat at both ends of the ice. With Tom’s height and weight combined it makes him a very agile skater that can also shield the puck and go up against some bigger bodies with his weight. Every good player has got be able to skate and Lincoln can certainly do that. Passing: It has seemed to be a very popular thing in the hockey world. Everybody wants to become to a goal scorer that gets the fifty-goal seasons and scores the fancy goals. Well because of this, Tom has shaped his game so that he benefits from all the scorers in the league, Tom is a prototypical playmaker. His passing is on another level and with all the scorers he should benefit greatly. Tom has a very deadly duo of his Passing and Skating skill sets. Smarts/Vision: Tom Lincoln is a very smart player on the ice. He does not have a very large frame but what he has, he makes it count. He counters his relatively small frame with his hockey sense and vision. Lincoln can see plays happening before they happen and uses his skating and passing to make those plays happen. Lincoln is far from a gritty player. He doesn’t hit, he doesn’t get in people’s faces but he does play smart. He does all the little things right with his hockey smarts and vision on the ice. Scoring: As mentioned above Tom Lincoln is a playmaking center so this means he does not have the shot that he maybe should have. Lincoln has been told over the years that his shot needs to improve to become an elite first line center. His shot right now is very weak and will certainly need some work moving forward come draft day in the VHL. Checking: Another one of the Lincoln's weaknesses is his ability to lay the body. Lincoln is just not built to play that kind of game. Standing at just under six feet tall and at exactly two-hundred pounds, it would be difficult but not unreal. Lincoln plays an aggressive, smart game, not a rough 'em up game like others play. Lincoln will likely not work on checking at all as that is not who he is but is certainly a weakness for this young centerman. Experience: Tom Lincoln when it comes to experience, well he has none of it. After only playing in the CHL a little while before declaring for the VHL he is coming from a situation where he was playing against young players to now where he will be playing in the VHLM against other top prospects. Tom will likely be claimed off waivers by a playoff-bound team. This will be a tough task for Lincoln and will be a huge step in his development.
