Weinstein struggling early on

After an off-season deal that saw Ariel Weinstein trade in his Quebec black and white for the Stockholm Vikings gold and black, things have been rocky for the young goaltender. In his sophomore season last year in Quebec, Weinstein improved in almost every aspect outside of his win loss record. Weinstein improved his save percentage by 12 points up from .904 to .916, well also posting a better goals against average with a 2.80 average. The net minder from Tel Aviv also improved on his goose egg he posted in the shutout category in his rookie season, by putting up 6 shutouts on the season. With improvement both on and off the ice, Stockholm management took the chance on Weinstein but paid a hefty price of the First Overall draft pick in this seasons past draft. After a successful career in the VHLM, hopes were high for the Season Forty-Five draft pick, but a combination of factors have led to a less than stellar start for the Weinstein camp.

Weinstein was drafted by the Quebec City Meute back in the Season Forty-Five VHL Entry Draft, Third Overall. At the time the draft class was a top heavy class that saw three elite goaltenders taken from the second to fourth spots in the draft. Weinstein was supposed to be the start of a quick rebuild that was going to take place for Quebec, but the end result for the team in Weinstein’s’ rookie season really put a wrench in those plans.  The Meute had a strong enough first half of the season with Bruno Wolf still on the roster that the team made the playoffs as the third seed in the North American conference, which led to the Quebec City based franchise missing out on a much needed lottery draft pick. Although every team wishes to win each and every season, sometimes the cycle comes for the team to be less than competitive and the Meute needed that cycle to come sooner than later for any hopes of the quick rebuild

Season Forty-Six was supposed to be another down year for the Meute, but once again somebody was willing to throw a wrench in those rebuild plans. With three teams in the North American conference in rebuild mode, one team would take a hit with a quick playoff appearance. Both Toronto and Quebec had rosters that could win some games, but weren’t going to blow any teams out of the water. Both teams had hopes of winning, but secretly inside the front offices of each franchises, management were looking to have their draft pick in the lottery. The race came down to the last few days of the season, but in the end a late season loss to the Legion led to the Meute missing the playoffs and finally getting the lottery pick the rebuild badly needed. This result also led to Meute management making the decision to send Weinstein packing for the First Overall draft choice in the Season Forty-Seven VHL Entry Draft. Although Weinstein will never see success in Quebec, his impact will be felt throughout the team for years to come thanks to that off-season trade.

Very interesting article, I read this even before I was put on the staff! Hopefully Stockholm is treating you well. There seemed to be a few run-on sentences in the article, and the little Stockholm bar in between the 2nd and 3rd paragraph seems a little out of place, but overall it was a very interesting article, a solid narration of the career of Ariel Weinstein and nice description of the Quebec City Meute franchise for the past 2 seasons.
