Hello all and welcome to the Franchise Hockey Manager 2 thread. Don't worry, I will still play OOTP. I just feel a little bored with it atm after only a week because well I have a short attention span and I had a little idea on how to start this game. I didn't want to forget it so here we are. I start as far back as we can go here on the game and that is in 1931. There are 8 teams and those teams are: Boston Bruins, Chicago Blackhawks, Detroit Falcons, Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Maroons, New York Americans, New York Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs. I will be taking over the Montreal Canadiens because well they are the most storied franchise in NHL history with 24 cup wins. I want to see if I can match of better that. Also they are my dad's fav. team so theres a little sentimental value put into it because I watched hockey with my dad every saturday when it was Montreal. Anyways, this will be fun.

-New York Times-

October 26th, 1931

After the owners meetings in New York, New York, there will be some change coming to the National Hockey League. Outside of Montreal and Toronto, teams were upset over the way they had monopoly over basically any young Canadian player in the game. So starting this season, there will be a reshuffling over over the league. Every player available will be up for grabs in a Dispersal Draft that will be held ASAP. Every season after this there will be a Entry Draft which every aspiring hockey player under the age of 19 will be selected by a NHL franchise.

The draft order is as follows:

will be revealed at a later time ;)

The two best players at the draft are superstars C Howie Morenz and D Eddie Shore.

It will be interesting to see who **** picks up!

Ok so i tried some things and it'd be just too much work. So we start in 1931-32, in 32-33 Ottawa rejoins the league and I would have liked to do a expansion draft thing for the them but its a lot of work. I'd have to create a lot of extra GM's with commish powers and then id have to go through all the rosters and see which ones team would like to keep and whos old and yea. So basically they will come in and just suck. lol. but onto the draft we go!

Draft Order:

1 - New York Rangers

2 - Montreal Maroons

3 - Montreal Canadiens

4 - Boston Bruins

5 - Detroit Falcons

6 - Chicago Blackhawks

7 - New York Americans

8 - Toronto Maple Leafs

Draft Review

1st Round, 1st Overall New York Rangers - C Howie Morenz

230px-Morenz19361937a.jpg

Career Stats: 297 GP - 207 G - 85 A - 292 P

29 GP - 11 G - 5 A - 16 P

Howie Morenz is the leagues all-time leading goal scorer so it was expected he would go 1st Overall. He is also 29 years old so he is in his prime. He will make the Rangers a competitor right away just on sheer will alone. Before the draft he played on a powerful Montreal Canadiens club.

1st Round, 2nd Overall Montreal Maroons - D Eddie Shore

pin_shore01.jpg

Career Stats: 208 GP - 62 G - 54 A - 116 P

28 GP - 5 G - 3 A - 8 P

Eddie Shore was the best defenseman available and the Maroons hope he will be one of the best for a long time. He is also in his prime at 28 years old. Shore has the same rating as Morenz. Before the draft he was a proud member of the Boston Bruins.

1st Round, 3rd Overall Montreal Canadiens - D King Clancy

220px-King_Clancy.png

Career Stats: 350 GP - 91 G - 83 A - 174 P

20 GP - 3 G - 2 A - 5 P

I had a lot of choices to make at 3rd overall. Do I pick a player who will have a bright future and plenty of fews ahead of him or do I pick a player who will contribute right away? Well with the selection of Clancy, I decided to pick up a stud #1 defenseman. He has the most GP in the NHL and that figure will hopefully keep going. Before the draft he plyed his trade in Toronto for a season after 9 seasons in Ottawa.

1st Round, 4th Overall Boston Bruins - RW Charlie Conacher

charlie-conacher.jpg

Career Stats: 75 GP - 51 G - 21 A - 72 P

2 GP - 0 G - 1 A - 1 P

Charlie Conacher has a bright future. He already has over 51 goals in his career despite only playing 75 games. He is a shoot first winger and will continue to carry on terrorizing goalies and defenders for years to come barring injury. Before the draft, the 21 year old was in Toronto.

1st Round, 5th Overall Detroit Falcons - LW Toe Blake

Career Stats: N/A

Here is the man I thought about taking 3rd overall. I might regret it later as I do just a tad bit now. Fun fact about Hector "Toe" Blake: His little sister couldn't say Hector and instead said Hectoe hence the name Toe Blake. The 19 year old will be a force to reckon with in Detroit.

1st Round, 6th Overall Chicago Blackhawks - C Bill Cowley

Career Stats: N/A

Another youngster selected in the 1st round is Bill Cowley. Other than that I must say I unfortunately do not know much of him. Obviously he is a big name from the Boston organization and the tag on his picture said legendsofhockey so, expect big things from the C. Chicago sure hopes so.

1st Round, 7th Overall New York Americans - C Frank Boucher

Boucher_F_1210_Ins1.jpg

Career Stats: 242 GP - 92 G - 108 A - 200 P

32 GP - 12 G - 6 A - 18 P

Frank Boucher didn't even have to move to a different town. He was playing for the Rangers before the draft and is now a member of the Americans. He played 1 year in Ottawa before moving across country to play in the PCHA with the Vancouver Maroons for 5 seasons. After that stretch he was with the Rangers. Very shrewd pickup for the Rangers. Underrated as they come.

1st Round, 8th Overall Toronto Maple Leafs - LW Aurel Joliat

230px-AureleJoliatCanadiens.jpg

Career Stats: 324 GP - 160 G - 88 A - 248 P

30 GP - 4 G - 8 A - 12 P

Aurel Joliat was selected by the Maple Leafs with the last selection of the 1st round. He spent his whole career with the Canadiens so this will be a little bit weird considering he is a Montreal legend and will now play for Toronto and wear Blue and White instead of the Bleu, Blanc and Rouge. At 30 years of age though you have to wonder how much he has left in the tank.

2nd Round, Pick 14, Montreal Canadiens: D Red Horner
Career Stats: 97 GP - 3 G - 18 A - 21 P
6 GP - 1 G - 0 A - 1 P

Well with my 2nd round pick, I decided to go with Red Horner. He is a great shutdown defenceman already with some offensive upside. He will be paired with veteran King Clancy to form a solid number 1 pairing. Before I took him, he was playing with Toronto.

3rd Round, Pick 19, Montreal Canadiens: G Tiny Thompson
Career Stats: 132 GP - 92 W - 28 L - 12 T/OTL - 18 SO
16 GP - 10 W - 6 L - 0 T/OTL - 3 SO

With what's given to me in the draft, I guess I'm building from the backend out. You can't go wrong with Thompson as a number 1 goalie. Look at that record. He will be the number one for years to come as he is only 28 years old.

4th Round, Pick 30, Montreal Canadiens: C Marty Berry
Career Stats: 97 GP - 39 G - 26 A - 65 P
11 GP - 4 G - 4 A - 8 P

Well how the mighty have fallen. Going from Howie to Marty as your number 1 center. Not saying he is a terrible player but compared to arguably the leagues first superstar. He will fill in admirably I hope if I keep expectations in check.

5th Round, Pick 35, Montreal Canadiens: C Syd Howe
Career Stats: 56 GP - 10 G - 22 A - 32 P
2 GP - 0 G - 0 A - 0 P

Well great centers are a dime and dozen. There is a lot of good/decent wingers so I went back to back with the men down the middle. Howe could be a very decent 2nd liner now and in the future. He shall hopefully learn from Marty Berry.

6th Round, Pick 46, Montreal Canadiens: LW Paul Thompson
Career Stats: 217 GP - 35 G - 33 A - 68 P
24 GP - 3 G - 2 A - 5 P

Paul Thompson will be faced with the large task of being a 1st liner for the 1st time in his career. He has some decent ability but it suits more of a 2nd liner to me. However, I have full faith in him and will give him his chance to play either 1st line or 1st PP, perhaps both as well.

7th Round, Pick 51, Montreal Canadiens: G Mike Karakas
Career Stats: 0 GP - 0 W - 0 L - 0 OTL/T - 0 SO
0 GP - 0 W - 0 L - 0 OTL/T - 0 SO

With this pick there was a big drop off in RW talent and I figured I can wait for both who I want at that POS and so I picked the young 19 year old Karakas who will back up Thompson. He has a lot of room to grow and should expect some decent game time.

8th Round, Pick 62, Montreal Canadiens: RW Johnny Gagnon
Career Stats: 41 GP - 18 G - 7 A - 25 P
10 GP - 6 G - 2 A - 8 P

I was correct about him be available after I picked Karakas. In his 1 season, the 26 year old had a very good season. He scored a goal every other game and he was near a goal per game in the playoffs. He should be great on top line RW. Expect a lot of goals.

9th Round, Pick 67, Montreal Canadiens: LW Murray Murdoch
Career Stats: 220 GP - 41 G - 33 A - 74 P -
25 GP - 5 G - 3 A - 8 P

Murdoch rounds out the top 6 forwards. He 40 points in 88 games the past 2 seasons so he seems like a perfect 2nd liner. However most of that came in 29/30 season and not the 30/31 season so we will tread carefully.

10th Pick, Pick 78, Montreal Canadiens: RW Mush March
Career Stats: 122 GP - 22 G - 16 A - 38 P
9 GP - 3 G - 1 A - 4 P

The man with a great name, Mush is a young 23 year old who if he get hot can be a decent player. He scored half of his career goals (11 G) last year on route to a breakout season, so we will keep an eye on this one.

The rest of the draft for us was a bunch or 3*/3* or lower potential players. Not really worth a mention so this is how the team looks after the draft:

Paul Thompson (3.5*) - Marty Berry (3.5*) - Johnny Gagnon (3.5*)
Murray Murdoch (3.5*) - Syd Howe (3*/3.5*) - Mush March (3.5*)
Frank Carson (3*) - Jack O'Riley (2*/3*) - Glenn Byrdson (3*)
Scratches: LW Herb Foster (1.5*/3*), C Cully Dalhstrom (1.5*/3*), RW Paul Raymond (1.5*/3*)

King Clancy (5*) - Red Horner (4*)
Marty Burke (3*) - Albert Leduc (3*)
Doug Brennan (3*) - Chris Speyer (3*)
Scratches: Armad Raymond (1.5*/3*), Art Wiebe (2*/3*), Bob Davie (1.5*/3*)

Tiny Thompson (4*)
Mike Karakas (2.5*/3.5*)

Reserve rosters are more of the same types of players the scratches are.
