Despite hailing from a remote part of Canada, Asher Donovan has still managed to develop as a hockey player and is hopeful that he can crack Canada's under 20 team this Christmas. That may prove a difficult task given how little is known about him, it is almost unfathomable how he can be so unknown considering how hard it is to miss him when you see him in person. Standing just two inches under six and a half feet he cuts an imposing figure and once he gets his equipment and skates on he looks like Titan compared to his peers.

Donovan is a member of the Yellowknife Wolfpack and there is zero doubt who the alpha is, he protects his teammates with the Old Testament "eye for an eye" philosophy. He has been known to lose his temper at the sight of injured teammates and has had trouble with suspensions in the past, the most recent being a 10 game ban for breaking his stick on the face of a player who ran his goalie.  Despite Asher's abrasive nature he doesn't have too many fights under his belt as most opponents cringe at his size and will back down fairly quick, this presence is appreciated by his coaches and teammates alike as he doesn't always have to spend time in the box in order to intimidate players.

Asher is a fierce competitor but his hands are used for more than just breaking bones, his 15 goals in 20 games is proof of that. Donovan is not known for having a laser accurate shot but with his large frame he has power enough to dominate at the lower levels but it might not be enough to beat the cat like reflexes of a professional goalie so he's going to have to work on picking his shots. The best thing about Donovan's heavy shot is it does produce rebounds and Asher crashes the paint with reckless abandon, he's a goalies worst nightmare once he gets to the crease. He makes a better door than a window and he's solid oak double doors with brass knockers, he is almost unmovable once he gets in position at the top of the paint and he usually plays every minute on the power play.

When talking about Donovan it is impossible to not talk about his size as we have already mentioned it a half dozen times but there is a potential downside to being that big. Asher is the biggest kid in the sandbox and he's never had to play against a professionally trained and conditioned hockey player. We may find out that Asher relies too heavily on his raw strength and could be in for a rude awakening when he gets matched up against some the VHL's big boys. The other downside to being this large is it takes a lot more effort to get around the ice and Asher is not a swift skater, he has a nice looking stride but like a semi trailer stopped at a red light it takes a minute before the speed comes.

While some may worry that his speed and reliance upon his size may render Donovan useless in the VHL those scouts have not taken the time to truly appreciate Asher's number one strength. He is a very smart player, he is a good penalty killer and has been known to switch to defence on the pk because he can clear any forward from the crease. He has a very active stick and picks off passes regularly but he usually dumps them down because he likes to conserve his energy which has also led scouts to call him lazy and unmotivated. There are instances in games where you can see Asher's mind working faster than his body, sometimes he sees a pass happen early and he tries to jump the route but he's just not agile enough to make a play. Other times he sees a play unfold before the other team and he coaches his team on the ice to defend it, he works a lot like a middle linebacker would in an NFL defensive scheme.

VHL Expectation: Top 9 power forward with top line upside.

Review:

Looks like a Titan..... @Evans any relation? Great rookie Profile. I love the second point too, I'm actually currently writing an article on fighting in hockey in English so I've been researching lots of that kind of stuff. Great presentation, I don't normally see the first letter of paragraphs bolded like that so that was a fun addition, and gifs are always a great addition!
