Eggy216 136 Posted April 6, 2016 Share Posted April 6, 2016 After spending the last 3 years jumping from team to team in England, rumours have been swirling this morning that the young Catalan defender Hèctor de la Riva plans to come over to the United States to start this season in the VHLM. We reached out to de la Riva for comment, but as of press time we had not yet received a response confirming the veracity of this rumour. Over the past three years in England, de la Riva has struggled to find a home as not many teams have been willing to open their doors to the hard hitting defender after he famously lit a Spanish flag on fire and ran through the streets of Madrid just before beginning his first season with the Blackburn Hawks. We had the chance to speak to a few of his teammates on his current team, the Coventry Blaze, who had nothing but good things to say about him. All spoke highly of his skills on the ice, and his leadership qualities off the ice. There were no mentions of any potential on or off ice difficulties for de la Riva during his time with Coventry, but it's no surprise that he's chosen to make this jump to North America's VHLM - he gets a fresh new start, and his skills are already where they need to be at to compete in the faster paced North American game. We'll have more on this story as it develops.
