Team Canada Is Ready

Many questions were brewing for the Canadian squad at the World Cup heading into this one, and plenty have been answered. Going into it, Canada was not a favourite by any means, and were even ranked fourth in the Power Rankings. With such a young team compared to the others, nobody would have thought they would be in the place they are right now. They have growing youth in this current Canadian team, and they were expected to be strong next World Cup, but not this one. Canada currently sits atop the standings with a 5-1-0 record.

Goaltending for sure was a blip on the radar for the red and white, but Atticus von Braxton IV has been decent. He boasts a .902 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.79. Although, he definitely has his team's scoring to thank for his successes. AVB has not needed to keep as many pucks out of the net as people may have thought. This was thought of as a big problem heading into it, but Canada's offense seems to have canceled that out.

Taking a look at the offense, analysts were curious of how things would pan out for this team. The Faux brothers have not always been so elite, but they have carried the load quite well so far. With other growing studs such as Zach Parechkin and Tom Lincoln playing well also, this team has as much firepower as you could ask for. Bronson Faux leads the pack with 3 goals and 5 assists, for 8 points in 6 games so far. His brother is right behind him with 4 goals and 3 assists, giving him 7 points. Zach Parechkin has been the rough and tough player out there for Canada, with his team and World Cup leading 26 hits. That hit statistic ties none other than Lord Karnage for most in the World Cup so far. After that, you have Unassisted's 6 points providing some key depth, and veteran Brady Stropko on the tail end with 2 points.

On the defensive side of things, Francis York Morgan's prime skill set continues to wow the VHL in all aspects of the game. He is tied as a defenseman with a tournament best 8 points, with 7 of those being assists, going back to what made him so great in Toronto last season. Up and coming VHL superstars John Sleeman and Black Velvet balance out that D-core heavily with 6 points a piece, while rookie Ted Doughty is holding his own as well with his 2 points and 14 hits.

Not one player on Team Canada holds a negative plus/minus rating (besides CPUs), and many would not have predicted this. Older rosters like Scandinavia and World were more looking like Gold Medal caliber rosters, as well as Europe. Canada so far has shown the doubters that they are here and ready to win. Although, there are still many big questions to be answered heading further into the tournament, as tough battles wait ahead.

Review:

good article. After looking and seeing Canada being at the bottom last year, it's crazy that they've turned it around so quickly. I'm sure Black Velvet and AVB4 has played a big part of that. I was very glad to have been the first team to unseat you guys! Best of luck to you all moving forward
