Since the Season 37 Tournament (The World Cup which saw Team World and Team Mercenaries make their debut), Team USA have played Team Europe/Western Europe on eleven occasions, but have only beaten them once (in the Season 40 tournament). In that time frame, this is the worst W-L record that one team has over the other, with every other team having beat each other at least twice in that time. What makes this interesting is that Team USA are only of three different teams to win a Gold Medal in that time frame and they also finished with a Silver Medal in the Season 43 tournament, it’s strange for a team that’s had relatively good success to have such difficulty with an opponent considering everyone else has beaten Team Europe more than once. In fact, Team World and Team Mercenaries have had less medals combined than Team USA in that timeframe and have still had more success.

Team Canada have gotten off to a strong start so far, currently sitting in third place in the round robin table, however if they cannot keep that form going into the elimination phase, they risk extending their currently active streak of World Cups finished without a medal to four. If they were to fail to medal at this tournament, it would be the longest period of time that a team have been without a medal since Europe went five consecutive World Cups without a medal from Season 26 to Season 34. It’s worth noting that the Europe that went on that streak and the current Europe we see today are very different as during that streak of five tournaments without a win, there was both a Team Europe and also a Team United Kingdom.

While the World Cup Awards have been in place since the Season 43 total, the player who wins the Top Forward award will be only the second player to have done so after Bismarck Koenig won the trophy in both Season 43 and Season 46. Over the course of those two tournaments, Koenig picked up 45 points, way more than any other player to compete in both tournaments. As of right now, it’s difficult to predict who will be the top scorer this year as there are just two points separating the top scorer and the fourteenth highest scorer.

If you want to go into some of the specifics on how each team performed in every World Cup before Season 22, good luck because there’s zero chance of that now that the original VHL site (that lasted for over 20 seasons) was finally deleted. While it’s not clear why that happened, you would imagine that the lack of activity of normal members in comparison to the overwhelming amount of kitchen advertisements led invisionfree to believe they were dealing with an inactive forum filled with spam and deleted it as such. A host error is an unlikely scenario as other now inactive Z11 forums that have not been affected by spam are still visible. Luckily, there is a current statistical table for World Cup player stats prior to Season 30, so at least not everything from prior tournaments have been lost, but attempting to look up specific results from those tournaments can be considered a lost cause.

Review:

How do you know all this stuff? I can barely remember who won the cup this past season let alone World Cup stuff. Though I think this is the first one I've been around for. Very well done with this article. Very good read.

Oh, and Lord karnage will lead in points.
