The battle for first place in the VHLM’s North American Conference was a close one, as the Brampton Blades and the Yukon Rush were the league’s two top teams this season.  At first, the Rush, led by likely MVP Asher Donovan, shot out to the lead.  But with a mid-season change in management gave Brampton the shift they needed.  Defenseman Stabby McFullO’Schmidt was signed as a free agent, forward Jack Kraken was acquired from Moscow, and goaltender Quinn Stevenson was picked up from waivers.

With these additions, Brampton became stronger and was able to claim the top spot in North America, thanks to a 3-2 shootout victory over the Bern Royals.  Kraken quickly made an impact as one of the team’s top scorers with 57 points in 35 games, McFullO’Schmidt provided more depth in the back, and Quinn Stevenson proved a capable replacement for the struggling Sam Wall.  Combined with the solid performances of Diana Maxwell, Sven Wolf, and Theo Axelsson, this helped the Blades become the VHLM’s top regular season team.  With a first-round bye in the playoffs, Brampton will be waiting to face either Yukon or Ottawa in the conference finals.  Will they be able to top off their excellent season with a Founder’s Cup?  Only time will tell.
