jRuutu 2,483
Regular season has been over for some time now and even the playoffs are done now, so everybody in the league are slowly getting back to work. Some guys might be still enjoying their time off from hockey, but I have already been working towards next season for the last six or so days. I had my little vacation as well, but since we got knocked out of the playoffs fairly early, I had to start everything earlier than I hoped. Everything has not gone so smoothly so far, I managed to hurt myself during my trip back to Finland. After the playoffs were done, I did what I do every year after the season is over, I travel back to Finland. This year instead of living with my parents during the trip, I decided to rent a summer cottage near a beautiful lake. After few days of just relaxing, I decided to try water skiing. The cottage where I lived had a small pier with a motor boat and I managed find the rope thing with skis from the sports store nearby. Never actually tried water skiing before, but I have seen people do it, so how hard can it be? Turns out its really hard. I started just fine, but after skiing for a while, I fell down on my face and somehow managed to hurt my shoulder while doing so. Water skiing was done after that and I just spent rest of the days relaxing and catching up with family and friends. Shoulder was still quite sore when it was time to head back to New York. I visited the team´s doctor pretty much right away. He told me it might not be anything too serious, but he told me to go to see a real doctor in few days if the pain wont go away. Luckily for me the shoulder was just fine before the first workout session of the pre-season. I naturally did not tell the GM anything about it because he does not like it when we have fun. That little injury was not the best way to start the season, but at least it forced me to take it easy. When you are as old as I am, rest is even more important than before, so perhaps getting hurt was not so bad after all. Somebody might be wondering if this year will be my last one in the VHL? I can confirm that it will be. I just don´t have what it takes to keep on playing on the same level year after year. My playing style combined with just the fact that I´m a old guy is really all that it takes. As mentioned before, I´m currently getting ready for the regular season to start and I will do my absolute best to make sure I will be ready to roll when day one is here. Its been a hell of a journey so far, but there is still room for one more chapter.
