FacePuncher 1,343
Team World has only one medal to their name, a bronze one. Could this year be their year? It's hard to tell, but one thing is for sure: this team is primed for the future. Unlike Skandinavia, this team is build from the back up, starting with superior goaltending and moving up from there to a strong defense. This is the squad that @Toast put together: FORWARDS Wesley Babiy - @BeanSobie - Wesley hasnt exactly panned out the way many had hoped, but he has set into a rythym in Seattle this year in a secondary role. He is the only true center on the roster, and Smeall is hoping that he can bring that talent to the top line. Bogdan Podarok - @ADwyer87 - Podarok is one of four major rising stars for Team World. The S48 VHLM MVP spent last Workd Cup playing for Team Mercs, and S49 having a disappointing rookie season. He rebounded in S50 and showed everyone his potential by leading the Bears in points. "I'm very excited for this Cup" Podarok said, "I hope to bring a medal home". Team World will hope for more progression like that from him on the top line. Arcturus Mengsk - @Mike - Mengsk has had a wild ride recently. After coming off a close run for defenseman of the year, Mengsk struggled next season and was traded, where he was quickly moved to winger. Team world is hoping for a revival to his last year form next to former Seattle teammate's Babiy and Podarok. Pietro Maximoff - @Green - Remember when we said four rising stars? Well Maximoff might just be the best one. While he did take a slight stat hit this year, last year's RoY has put in a lot of work in the gym and was given the A to wear. He should be a valuable addition to the team on the second line Lucas Zhukenov - @Sandro - Zhukenov's once promising career have since gone downhill, but he did find a little stability with the Bears this year, a team that a lot of Team World players are on, with 41 points. The team is going to be hoping he can surprise on the second line. Conrad Jenkins - @Kylrad - This pick came as a big surprise for Team World fans. The relatively unknown and untested Conrad Jenkins was the final entry on the team, and he should be the youngest on the squad. Smeall is hoping his youth will provide a spark plug on the second line. DEFENSEMEN Biggu Kyanon - @tfong - The Captain is entering what will likely be his final World Cup, and he's doing so as the best player on the roster. Age has started to wear on Kyanon, but he is still a shot blocking machine, and a lot of his drop in points can be chalked up to moving from Seattle, where he was the top option, to Cologne, where he is one of many. He will be headlining the top line for team world. Bobby Digital - @gorlab - Digital had a huge breakout year this year, nearly doubling his point production, adding more shot blocks, and quadrupling his hit total. Digital is one of the four major young stars that Team World has, and is by far the most physical of the four, and fans will be hoping that he brings that to the first pairing. Felipe Rodriguez - @evrydayimbyfuglien - Rodriguez has always flown under the radar, but he has quietly had his best year this year, scoring 50 points and continuing his solid hits and blocks production. He will be called upon to captain the second pairing. Theo Matsikas - @Individual - The Helsinki legend spent last World Cup on Team Mercs. Matsikas will be retiring after this season, but he seems like he could play a few more. His point production has stayed steady, and while he had a large drop off in shot blocks this year, he made up for it by adding 89 more hits. Matsikas will be playing out the final stage of his career on the second pairing of Team World. GOALIES Ariel Weinstein - @Smarch - Weinstein is back on the scene for team world, as one of 3 players probably making their final appearance in the cup. Him and Kyanon will be called upon to bring a medal back to Team World, as he will be the backbone of the team as the starting goalie. Jakab Holik - @Beketov - He may not be called upon to do much this year, but make no mistake: Holik is the future of Team World. The fourth Seattle player here, and the fourth major young star, he took a nice step forward this year, and if he keeps it up he could be a major factor for this team. For now, however, he will simply be the backup.
