Tagger 2,722 Posted October 19, 2016 Share Posted October 19, 2016 Here's two articles I read and here are my thoughts on them: Two points: - While I would say Legion were definitely favourites for the Season 48 and Season 50 championships, I definitely wouldn't agree with them being pretty clear winners for the Season 49 tournament. I think an argument could actually be made that, ability wise, they were the weakest of the three North American teams in that playoff race and that their victory was probably the most unexpected Continental Cup victory since Season 43 Bears. - As someone who doesn't benefit from these moves at all, I agree very much with the opinion of "If they came to me, I wouldn't be complaining" line of thinking. I also agree with their being diminishing activity thanks to the moves. I think really the only gripe I have with the way this went down is that there's only one reason that Calgary are so overwhelmingly than the rest of the pack, and that's because the league is so lacking in players in comparison to previous years thanks to failures on the recruitment front in numerous drafts (Season 44 and Season 47 come to mind). Had those drafts been even decent, a team that stacked itself with free agents like Calgary have wouldn't look nearly as dominant (they would likely still be the favourites, but not .900 win percentage favourites). So to see two of those four who took part in this be administrators, it's almost as if they're rewarding themselves with a trophy for ultimately not doing a good enough job on the recruiting front. Now having done the research, I'm happy to report that my assumptions were 100% correct. We were probably the most picked for S49, with the Bears garnering some attention as well. Granted, predictions don't indicate who was favored skill-wise, but the league didn't think we'd win in S48 when the season started. S48 was the same season most people predicted me to win Most Sportsmanlike, so I would disregard those on that fact alone.
