NotAVHLM-GM 1,858
Pietro Maximoff renews contract with Riga Pietro Maximoff has gone under the radar for most of his career, after being named rookie of the year he entered a slump where he just can’t seem to get out of. He scores his points, but he is not as high on the scoreboard as he had hoped to be. Maximoff came into the VHL as one of the fastest players the world has ever seen, but his lack of work ethic just seems to hold him back. He just relays on a few practices each week, which hardly improves his ability. Despite his work ethic the last seasons, the general manager of Riga saw something in Maximoff and rewarded him with the C on his chest. The current captain of the Riga Reign has not made it a secret that he wants to win a cup with this franchise and no matter how long it takes, he would like to stay here for the ride. With the Reign on top of the European Conference this year it seemed like a good moment to renew his contract and hope this motivates the other players to stick around as well. Riga has been great this year and a lot of this is because of goaltender Sandro Clegane who has posted 18 shutouts so far and center Sir William Covington III who already scored over a hundred points in 61 games. On the blueline Jeff Hamilton is the driving force of the Reign and actually on the second spot in team scoring as a defenseman, with Shawn Muller not being far behind. While not being close to the three great ones, Maximoff leads the depth players just before Virtanten, Maverick and Roberts. The team has a solid line up and it would be great to have the players together for the future. In the hope of making this happen Maximoff recently renewed his contract for another three years, showing his dedication to the Riga Reign. With the regular season coming to an end it remains to be seen if the other players will stay on, but Maximoff holds his hopes high and would like them to stick together and aim for the top. It’s been a while since Riga has won anything, so it would be quite the achievement to pull it together and come out victorious. So after signing the contract and having to hold a press conference, Maximoff asks his teammates to re-sign with Riga. So far, nothing has happened but if playoff success on the horizon, that might be something that changes. But before we see anything happen, it’s likely we will have to see how the playoffs play out first. Let’s hope the Reign can put up a stunt and surprise the VHL, because if it works, this has been a quick turn around after some seasons in the shadows. DollarAndADream 3,357
Review: Riga has definitely been something else this season. Lots of doubters, for sure. But as everyone should know by now, all you have to do is make the playoffs and anything can happen. Goaltenders go on a tear, etc etc. Maximoff's playoffs have been clutch as well.
