BluObieZ 1,125
So we all know the VHLM sucks balls. It needs massive help and that’s putting it nicely. The league is far from fun or competitive. But what if it was the opposite? What if all teams were competitive? I know you are sitting there thinking “It would be nice but it’s not and never will be” well guess again my inept minded reader. Bear with me as I bring you on a wild ride through my proposal on how to “MAKE THE VHLM GREAT” First off we need to point out what is wrong with the so called league. What is wrong with the VHLM? · Not competitive · “League” has more teams that suck then teams that are good · New members lose interest because of the bad teams they are forced to play on. GM’s won’t trade them away because of the low prices other GM’s put on their players. · No one wants to stay in the VHLM, everyone wants to make the jump to the VHL even if it means to suck in the VHL How do we fix the “league”? · Total and utter dismantlement of all the teams in the league. We cannot leave one intact because that is the old VHLM. The old VHLM that sucked. We need a new look, new teams and new GM’s. · We create a new league called the VHLJr. That will act like a growing ground for young players. Players that would suck in the VHLM and or VHL. This is the place where they can thrive and dominate before being put on a VHLM team or VHL team. It will bread players that want to win. · With the new look five team VHLM and the brand new four team VHLJr you are creating a winning atmosphere. All teams will be competing for the cup. Winners will be rewarded giving incentive to win and not to tank. Elaboration Getting rid of every team in the VHLM: Why? Because the league needs to hit the rest button. They need a new look. What better way than with new teams. We only need five teams, who would make the decision which five stay? It’s better to just come up with five new teams. I suggest keeping them all in North America for a more realistic feel and shorter “travel times” I obviously would want a team in Las Vegas. Once we do this, we can let VHL teams pick a partner team to team up with to pick a VHLM team to be their affiliate. Any player that is playing in the VHLM can be called up during the season. Now comes the cool part, to keep the league interesting and fun you reward the good teams with the top picks in the upcoming “draft” a draft that will be filled with not active players. Which is much like the AHL in real life. You have young players that are trying to get to the NHL (VHL in our case) and a bunch of roster fillers that will never make it. We will implement that these players can only play on the 3rd or 4th lines and no special teams. If they ever become “active” again they can play more. But we need to tread lightly with that “active” definition. Some teams might take advantage of it. So any player getting welfare is not “active” Players that are drafted to VHL teams and that are “active” cannot be traded in the VHLM since they must stay with their VHL teams affiliate team. Only “inactive” players can be traded. Which will make things interesting because only a handful of inactive players are actually “good” so it will make VHLM GM’s really try to get their VHL teams to give them better players for playoff runs. With the top teams in the league getting rewarded for winning it will create no incentive for the losing teams to suck. All teams will want to play hard and win the cup. Also we can even implement some sort of incentive/reward for the VHL teams affiliated with the VHLM team that wins making the VHLM success even more important. It will make the VHL teams want their little bro’s in the VHLM succeed. The VHLM will become a team that breeds winners. All players and managers involved will want to win. To get those incentives and rewards. Players will stay active just to become better so they can get rewarded for hard work. It will fuel rivalries and create a competitive nature that these players will bring to the VHL. The Playoffs will consist of all five teams. The top team in the league will get a round one bye and then will play the winner of teams three and four. This way no one misses out and every player gets to experience the playoffs. More room for upsets because players will continue to get better as the season goes on. So teams that are “weaker” at the beginning may actually have a shot at an upset in the playoffs. So basically the VHLM becomes an incentive based league that breeds winners. Feed by VHL teams that want to see them succeed because if they do so do they with team based incentives. You will no longer have VHL GM’s not caring about what happens to VHLM teams if they do not send their young players down for the season. Creation of the VHLJr: With the VHLM creation and reduction from eight teams to five you create a hole that needs to be filled. How do you fill it? Well with the creation of a league for the pre-VHL draft players. A league where the players that are not good enough to play in the VHLM just yet. So they can dominate a league and not worry that they won’t get enough playing time. If they go right into the VHLM they will be dominated and used less than the already drafted players. The new goalies will be lit up by the older and better players and they will go inactive or they will give up and re-create. Something that we don’t want. We want the goalies to want to feel good about their players. In the VHLJr they can shine before they move onto the VHLM and the VHL. The same goes for any other player. No one in this league likes the feeling that their player sucks balls. So if give them another league for young players like them where they can dominate and succeed we won’t lose as many players as we do. The VHLJr would only have four teams because we all know there wouldn’t be enough players to have more teams. This will make the league very competitive and the teams will be fighting over new players. Like the VHLM I say we reward the top teams with the best picks in the upcoming draft so every team will want to win. You no longer will have teams that are supposed to be breeding and helping develop our young players suck ass. From the VHLJr to the VHLM these young players will be playing for good teams and constantly having a chance at the cup. This will create a buzz in the league, it will create a new competitive nature and you will no longer have people complaining as much about how they just want their pre-draft days over. You will no longer have tons of new guys losing interest because of being bored because they play for shitty teams. They will go from good team to another one and when they get to the VHL they will go onto another good team… that’s if the VHL team is managed right and knows how to build. If not well… this plan is not built to help the moronic. I am only trying to help the league not lose so many players, and keeping them interested by building two very fun and competitive leagues Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/35248-the-grand-robbie-plan/ Share on other sites
hedgehog337 3,483
I don't know about cutting all VHLM teams. The VHL league has EU conference as well, will it make sense to relocate VHLM to NA only? Also, we will need 9 GM's then. We are struggling to get even 8 active GM's, now there's one more to find. Other than that, an interesting and fresh idea. @Higgins @Draper @Toast just tagging. It deserves an attention imo. Toast 887
I appreciate the effort that went into your suggestion, but I do have to disagree with your idea here. I don't think that turning the league into an affiliation system really works. I've seen it done in another league and the VHLM GMs would just switch to bothering the VHL GMs for send downs. The trade market wouldn't work with only a small handful of inactives that will have way too high of value for the level of player that they are. I don't like the three league system because that's even more simming for whoever would end up with that job. Sure, the VHLM isn't the best for players starting off, but this is not a difficult league to succeed in. With a little work, players will start performing. I don't think there is need to make another league just so newbies get their hopes up with strong play to start off (because inevitably the VHL will crush them in their early seasons in most cases). I also don't like hitting the reset button of the VHLM. Yes, a team or two need to go. And yes, some GMs need replacing. But to destroy all the teams and get rid of all the GMs? Really unnecessary. Let's work on finding some new GMs and smoothing out what we have rather than nuke the whole thing. Again, sorry to just shoot down the idea. I like that you have really thought out the proposal!
