Very deep into Season 36, Keiji Toriyama has his New York Americans in second place in North America, just two points behind the Quebec City Meute. Going into the season, they were expected to be no where near the playoffs, but they find themselves ahead of the cup-contending Toronto Legion. This has, without a doubt, been in large thanks to the play of Toriyama, who is in his first season with the Americans. He has been a leader on and off the ice for New York, a young team mostly comprised of rookies and shitty players.

On top of leading a young team that came into the season with low expectations to a playoff spot, Toriyama is sporting stats that are quite impressive. He has scored a goal in 100% of the games this season, the only player to have done such. Additionally, he is leading the league in points with two per game and is third in points per 20 minutes behind two insignificant players. Toriyama has sacrificed his body for the Americans, blocking nearly two shots a game to lead the team (impressive, as he is a forward). On top of that, he has taken a league-leading number of hits, which of course I'm going to spin as a positive statistic.

The Americans have faced a tough schedule so far, having only faced teams that have won Continental Cups in the past. So yeah, Toriyama is definitely going to win MVP.
