Season 52 is getting close to the half way mark, every team has played 32 games so far. I thought it would be a good idea to take a closer look on Quebec´s season so far. Out of those 32 games, we have won eight and lost 24. That total puts us on the last place in the North-American conference with 19 points. Second last team in our conference is the Legion with 42 points, so it´s quite easy to predict that Meute will be the last team in the NA conference this year. Everything is of course possible in the crazy world of VHL, but the point difference might be too much, even when there is still a lot of games to be played.

Finishing last in the North-American conference might not mean we are the last in the whole league, there is currently three teams with less points than Quebec in the European conference. Dynamo with 18, Titans at 16 and last team in the whole league at the moment, Stockholm with 8 points.

That is bit of a dilemma for the GM and for the coaching staff, everybody wants to win as many games as possible, but at the same time, finishing near the bottom means you will be drafting high if you still have the 1st round pick naturally. Difference between drafting first overall and for example third overall can be drafting a player with potential to be a franchise player and a player with potential to be a solid second line player. Drafts are always risky, never know who will reach their potential. Some never do and then some will do a lot better than anybody expected.

Sometimes it´s hard to stay focused

Stockholm is looking like pretty solid pick to finish last in the whole league at the moment, but then there is the three teams who are close to each other, Quebec, Dynamo and the Titans could all finish between second and fourth places. Almost impossible to predict what the final standings will look like now, but closer we get to the trade deadline, you might see some trades that either helps these bottom teams to win bit more or increase the chances of losing more if they trade key players away.

We got few guys here in Quebec that could interest teams, Kendrick Cole is currently leading the team in scoring with 27 points in 32 games. Ted Doughty is on the same point total, but he has not scored as many goals as Cole.

Bubba Nuck could be good pickup for a playoff team as well, he has been solid this year and has 14 points from the blueline. Now, I have no idea if Quebec will do any trades, I have not heard anything at least, but you never know. I cant see the GM trading away Edwin Threencarnacion or Fabio Jokinen, those two players are the young stars and the players who will hopefully lead Quebec into playoffs in the future.

Interesting to see how the seasons keeps on going from here, we will hopefully see some trades around the league and also start to see which teams might be closer to finishing on the bottom on the standings.
