Rush-ed! GET IT?! Huh?! HUH?! It's like the VHLM team the Yukon Rush, but with a bit added on the end.

So originally for this Media spot, I was going to do a written rundown of the 2016 VHL Awards that I have given out so far this season. However, I’ve not really got that much time to give as much thought to the writing as I would like to, so that will be my media topic for next week. If you want to find out who the winners and runners-up were though for Hottest Mess, Best Change, Best Team and Worst Team, you will be able to find my 2016 VHL Award podcasts in the VHL Radio section where I pretty much give my live thoughts as to who I select for each award. Also, it’s in British English which, let’s face it, that alone is worth the price of admission.

So instead I’m just going to talk about some stuff that I had been looking into regarding the current state of the VHL. Now, as some of you will be aware, I am of the belief that for the VHL to be as good as it can possibly be, we need to consider a contraction to eight teams. Right now, and even with the two-player rule players coming in, we haven’t got enough players to justify a ten team league. In fact, as it turns out, we never really did. I mean think about the last time that you saw ten teams step onto the ice with a respectable lineup. Oh what’s that, you don’t? Well, you’d be correct and it’s one of the main reasons that I put forward contraction as a potential option for the future to the BOG. Think about it this way, what gives you the bigger thrill when you play a video game; just scraping past the final boss on hard difficulty by the skin of your teeth or defeating the same boss on easy mode with infinite healing items? If you find yourself on a competing team, that latter option is pretty much half of the regular season nowadays, as five teams this year fielded four or less VHL ability players. Hell, for Riga that continued right into the playoffs as they found out going into the playoffs that to make the Continental Cup Final (y’know, the game which decides the best team for that season), they would only have to beat either the Cologne Express, a team that has a defenseman (as in one, and he’s a VHLM quality one) or HC Davos Dynamo, which is predominantly comprised of some of the finest VHLM quality players you will see in the VHL. Thank fuck for parity right?
