There has been some talk in the BoG about contraction, more specifically contraction in the VHL. There has been some well researched evidence brought to the table by one @YEAH!stlemania regarding the actual impact of project two, and questioning whether or not the league has enough players to sustain 10 teams. Or if it will ever. While I can confirm that there has been some reaction to these ideas, more so in regards to believing it's far too soon to be determining the actual impact of Project Two. That isn't what I was here to talk about though, more so how that lead me and a few others to begin thinking about another idea to make the league better.

No more VHLM. It's a controversial thing to do, the idea of having some sort of junior league to allow new members the chance to not just quickly enter the league but actually contribute to a team in some capacity is rather well established. However I feel despite numerous changes, rebrands, contractions, GM pushes, the results of actual retention coming out of the VHLM are always low. Part of that could be due to the niche of the league and some people are just checking it out and decide it's not for them. But another could be that due to the inactive and often irrelevant status the VHLM gets from a large majority of members here myself included, even with my player in the league and the Pajodcast formed all season, I had to force myself to post in game threads just to get the routine of checking them. There is no spark, no back and forth. And while that sometimes happens in the VHL as well, there is always some topic about something going on about the main league.

We need to unite all members of the VHL together. While I'm sure there is a litany of good ideas and proposals surrounding this, I'll simply give my thoughts on an idea. It wouldn't be that hard to grab two of the best VHLM GM's and two of the most deserving VHLM teams to be added to the VHL, and scrap the rest of the league. Any other VHLM GM's who want spots can easily apply for one of the many open VHL GM spots. We then give new members entering the league a bunch of TPE to start, 100-150, whatever, find a good number that makes sense for the math. And then we up the percentages on carryover to more accurately reward those who recreate. The only thing missing is some sort of waiver system for members who create in the middle of the season etc, but that type of thing shouldn't be that hard to figure out and balance.

I feel under a system like this our actual goal with new members, getting them acclimated with the league, it's members and our community as quickly as possible is easier achieved. There wouldn't be any division, we'd likely add even more tiers of player to the league, which would allow for far more balanced team builds from GM's. To me we just divide way too much of our resources and active member contribution between to the two leagues when we don't have the member base to support that.

I dunno about that.

I think.... we can cut the VHL to 6 or 8 teams and the VHLM to 6 teams. Then.... we have the top 4-6 teams make the playoffs in the VHL and the bottom 2 teams play a 7 game series, and the loser gets relegation to VHL2.

In the VHLM all 6 teams make the playoffs and the finals is actually a 7 game series to win the VHL2 championship AND a promotion to VHL1.

Of course we would have to change contracts so vets didn't sign 1 season long deals as free agents just to guarantee not getting relegated.

Maybe all the new players go into drafts for the VHL2.

Maybe we can have relegation and make the VHLM the secondary league not the new player league

If the current formula has worked for 50+ seasons, it's probably better off to not change it; sim leagues always have high and low waves of activity that are hard to predict.

who is this guy. ive never seen him before
