We're back with my discussion of random topics. IN this episode we talk about Lack of Competition this season,  what the hell NY is doing with their goalie situation, and how I got drafted so early. During that we play some Infinite Warfare with my new controller that I proceed to break not even 5 minutes into my first match with it. So, enjoy my suffering!

Over 4000 TPE among all our forwards....apparently is not trying to compete. :P I realize you were mostly referring to the goalie situation, but rookie goalies have won Cups before. We are in a league dominated by forward success and I don't know how you can look at a forward group where well before playoffs all forwards will be above 500 TPE as a "not compete" team. Regarding your curiosity about where we are coming from in regards to the goalie stuff, the league has been primarly dominated by offensive teams. Obviously Wingate came in and changed that, but unless Holik goes full Wingate mode the other competing teams that New York would face in the playoffs are not in goalie positions (save for Seattle of course) that is the "large" gap your talking about. Remember no more Sandro, no more Ariel, no more Greg. TPE wise it's you, then 500-600 Toast, then everyone else is sub 400 pretty much. So at nearly 300 TPE Power may look weak, but in the league the way it is now? Seattle has the edge over NY on defense and goaltending but you guys also only have 5 forwards, and even then our forward core is so bloody impressive.

But I guess I'll just say I won with a rookie goalie in Rift when I took over in NY in S32. It's not impossible. Realistically unless Seattle wins a rookie or sophomore goalie is going to win the cup, since it'll be Degrath, Moon, or Power as the other 3 choices.

Also, holy shit at that breaking your first trial. Curious if the person who sold it too you knew that would happen or perhaps you got ripped off? You said you bought it off Ebay or?

Edited by Mr. Power

But truthfully the parity next season is probably better than last. It's tough when you are the best goalie in the league, and the second best is actual @Toast if you look at TPE count. A lot of prominent players in the league are very young. That is to say most in Season 1-3 of their careers, so still rookie contracts.

I never said you wouldn't compete this season did I? In fact I believe I listed you as one of the 4 that should be competing. I do think the rookie goalie is a gamble but you guys definitely have a lot of forward star power.

I bought it off kijiji so it's local but still used. He claims that it was fine before but he's obviously not going to tell me it was busted. There's definitely tiny cracks being held together by the bolts so I do wonder if it was just a matter of time. I think my pressure was a tad high since I'm not used to it yet which, combined with the cracks, caused it to break. I ordered some new paddles that should work better, at least I hope. I was saving $70 vs. Buying new and now that's down to $50 so I'm not pleased.

Yeah if you can get the paddles for cheaper. Controllers are really not what they used to be, and they overcharge for shit on them now. Is it a PS4 controller?

Its a PS4 version but It's a scuf so it costs more is the problem since its custom made to have the paddles. Even a regular PS4 controller with tax is running $90 and up though which is insane.

Yeah I had to get a new controller for Doom and shooters as I ran into that stupid left stick not going all the way up thing. So on like, third person games I never noticed it but shooters for sure. Also you kind of said nobody is competing this season to start, so I was all confused. But then you said 4 teams were competing. :P It's tough to talk and play at the same time haha. I think you were just speaking on the variety of builds this season, in terms of team make up. Seattle, New York, Stockholm as prime examples are all different in their team make up. Seattle reminds me of Davos in the old days, a decent number of high priority players.

But your argument of "defense wins Championships" is simply wrong. It's not wrong in the NHL. But it doesn't win in the VHL. Go look throughout history, even NY's own history. When I won with NY in Season 32 we had a rookie goalie, no Daniel Braxton or Glover, yet we traded for Alex Chershenko and ran with him and Reikkinen together and Connor Evans at second line and won it all. That was after seasons of Glover/Braxton combo going to finals but never winning a Cup. Because they lacked the offense to do so. You look at the success Helsinki had with O'Malley, and Cologne as well. Also to your confusion about the trade, I didn't trade Toasts goalie out of choice. We didn't have the cap room to keep him. Power was up, no matter what I did. He's over the tpe cap now and already spent an extra season in the VHLM. However 5 of my forwards and one of my d is signed for seasons on here. So it made more sense to make the decision to go with Power, something I'd have to do sooner or later for cap purposes, and then get under the cap and run with what I had.

But to the point, more teams in the VHL win on offense historically. Even the Wingate era Legion had Parechkin, Molholt, even Edwin during one of their runs as a deadline deal. If you can load up your offense you generally get good results. But who knows it's the STHS and anything can happen. :P Good listen though!

I do mostly BS my way through these, especially with the "defence wins" thing haha.  Not only was I frustrated because of the paddle at that point but I'm generally very distracted. Doing podcasts with CoD makes them more fun but is definitely not ideal for train of thought haha.

You are definitely right that you can win with a lesser goalie, you obviously proved that last season, and your forward group is basically untouchable. We're probably second in forward TPE and you still have us best by over 700. Mins you out defense and goalie have a lot more as well so it should be interesting to see how things play out. You proved me wrong once, let's see if you can do it again haha.

As far as controller conversation goes: my regular ones are holding up relatively fine. The L2 button sticks sometimes on both of them which makes me constantly aim when I intend to stop which is annoying. I haven't had stick problems though.

Yeah the little research I did online suggested it seems to be a complete crap shoot. I saw people who had issues with sticks over and over, and then I saw those who didn't have any. I have a feeling it's just a byproduct of some random manufacturing issues. I did get a white new one to replace my black one that I got with the PS4 roughly a year after launch, and I imagine as the years go on if you go and get a new controller it'll have some better consistency.

But they really do need built in warranty on those things, especially when here in Canada it's like $80+ for the things. Are you on a Pro or a regular PS4?

Regular; specifically the White one that launched with Destiny. I've only ever had white controllers (until this scuf) to match it so maybe it's just a defect with the black ones haha.

Whenever my PS4 does die (hopefully not soon) I will have to upgrade to a pro because I need the optical Audio for my headset and Surround Sound but oh well, hopefully that's a way in the future.

Yeah I'm debating on getting a Pro once I have the funds. I think maybe later this year as my small business grows (which is it is already thankfully) I'll be able to get both a Pro and a PS VR and just go that route. VR may not be perfect yet but it still seems enjoyable, plus the reviews for RE7 seem strong enough, I'm hoping by summer/fall this year there is enough good games out there to warrant a  PSVR purchase.

Also I'm like posting a ton in this to give this feature the feedback it deserves. I constantly check out your cast off/on on mobile or in situations where I'm not in a position to respond. But I'm drinking this morning so make this topic HOT so people come and check out more of your shit. @Beketov casts are secretly better than Knightcast, Pajodcast, Blades of Steel (or whatever Kendrick is naming his shit) if only because by choosing to stream a game Beketov is creating the opportunity to market the league in a way otherwise the rest of us don't. People looking for CoD plays may see this and go "shit join the league!" :P

Yes, keep praising me, ignore that I post these as unlisted so only the VHL will see them haha.

Feel free to share them in any recruitment stuff you want but my (very few) normal subs would be very confused by what the fuck I'm talking about here so I choose to make these unlisted so You need a link to watch.

Still, I enjoy the praise, maybe in the future I could make some kind of series in the same format that's more recruitment friendly and less things people won't understand.

Not that I have anything on my YouTube account or have a single follower - but I made separate Twitch/YouTube accounts for VWF lol

That's 100% what I should have done (and what I did on twitch) but I didn't so here we are haha. Admittedly I could make one now and just start at episode 37 but it might be weird.
