Müller Drafted by Quebec

As soon as the draft order was determined, it almost seemed a given that Franchise Cornerstone would be headed to Quebec at first overall, while Lukas Müller would be drafted by the Helsinki Titans with the second pick.  The two centers were just about the consensus top two picks in the draft for a while.  Cornerstone, an elite goalscorer hailing out of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, has been earmarked by many as one of the VHL’s next top stars after a dominant VHLM season where he finished with the league lead in goals and points.  The German-born Müller, son of former VHL defenseman Klaus Müller, is a prototypical playmaker - quick, good with the puck, and an excellent passer.  His 69 assists led the VHLM, and he notched 22 points in the playoffs, helping the Bratislava Watchmen win the Founder’s Cup with a playoff MVP-caliber performance.

But to many, Cornerstone seemed to be the top prospect in the draft by some distance.  Which is why it was such a shock to see the Quebec City Meute trading away the first overall pick (along with the 8th and 16th picks) in exchange for the 2nd, 7th, and 11th overall picks only minutes before the draft began.  By the end of the day, Lukas Müller was a member of the Quebec City Meute.  The 18-year old forward will be looking to break out on a larger stage, alongside a young Meute team that includes players like Edwin Threencarnacion, Fabio Jokinen, Apollo Skye, and Pierre Gaudette - not to mention more prospects coming up through the pipeline and a likely early pick in the Season 54 draft.  If Müller can grow alongside this young Meute team, Quebec could be a contender in the future.
