Whos Going to Snub Him Next?

He may not have the most high end skill. Scouts say he likely doesn't have elite potential but at least he is a safe pick. He also doesn't have the best hands. But all Fook Yu does is keep on chugging along. Brampton had three chances to pick him up in the VHLM draft before he ultimately went to the Ottawa Lynx. But instead of bringing back the player from the agency with close ties to the Blades, Blades GM @Smarch closed his eyes on the “not nearly as talented” defensive centerman whom “wasn't going to put up points in the VHLM anyways.”

Well fast forward to almost halfway into the season and Fook Yu has been giving the middle finger to his detractors. Tied for third with teammate Motherfucker Sharpe @JardyB10 in league points with 52, Fook Yu is also leading all players in hits with 114, the league in faceoff wins with a blistering 73.56% and tied for 4th in the league with 4 game winning goals. Among the league centers, he has a 10 point advantage against fellow center Fredinamijs Krigars and he holds a 19 point advantage over rival Marc-Alexandre Leblanc, the first overall pick of the VHLM S54 draft.

“Its true though when you look at him play and have the film going on the other guys at the same time. Fook Yu just doesn't exhibit the flashy plays one expects from a top overall pick. Despite that, he just somehow just keeps on putting points up across the board or comes out of the corners with the puck. Hes a fighter but I think his greatest quality is his hockey IQ. He doesn't have the quickest stick or the best shot, but he knows how to fit into the gameplan and knows where to support his linemates. Him and Locke have been firing on all cylinders since the start and hes also looked comfortable playing with other guys as well on the special teams. So why do we think he is still not going to be a top pick in the draft? Well the GM's picking will ultimately have to think about the situation like Smarch. That decision is going to ride on, do you want to pick a team first support player or do you want someone that could potentially put up points in bunches. Keep in mind that Yu wasn't expected to be anywhere near the top five in scoring, yet here he is sitting comfortably in the top five. I mean just to put this into perspective, his linemate (@Will)John Locke had 87 points in 72 games in his rookie VHLM campaign. Fast forward to this year and he has 79 points in 27 games already and on pace for 210 points. Natural progression states that he was bound to improve, but howmuch easier has it been for him since the arrival of towering Asian centerman? How will teams in the coming VHL draft look at this issue? Drafting a support player or a possible franchise player?” - Anonymous Scout

In a prior segment we had @Beketov weigh in on the effectiveness on a defense first player like Yu. Has his opinion changed much on the issue as well?
