Center - Rudy Ying - Team World @punkhippie

Arguably the 2nd best prospect available in the S55 draft, the Chinese-born Ying was a late addition to Team World's roster, replacing Singaporian forward Takashi Fujimoto. Ying had a bit of a pedestrian regular season points-wise, only scoring 49 points in 72 games with the powerhouse Las Vegas Aces, but he has certainly elevated his game in the playoffs; he and Fujimoto are both tied for the team lead in playoff points with 9 points in 7 games. In the World Cup, Ying may have to take a back seat to being a main contributor, as he is part of a potent offense that already contains more than a few skilled players, such as the Mongolian Franchise Cornerstone and Romanian Pietro Maximoff.

 

 

Left Wing - Rusty Trombone - Team Europe @Smarch

Just because he isn't available to go in the draft because of the GM rule, doesn't mean Trombone can't compete; if he was available to be drafted, he would be the 1st overall pick by a landslide. Trombone led the Las Vegas Aces in scoring this past season, scoring over 50 goals and 50 assists for 112 total points on the year. He has continued this pace into the postseason, with 8 points in 7 games, helping the Aces pummel their way to the finals. Unlike some of the other very young players playing in this upcoming World Cup, Trombone seems like he will definitely make a difference for Team Europe, given his high level of skill.

 

 

Goaltender - Key Perought - Team Europe @NUCK

Already arguably well-known around the league for his conflict with his former employer, the Las Vegas aces, Swiss-born netminder Key Perought certainly cemented his status as a household name in some parts of the world, specifically Yukon and Ottawa. The two cities would see their two VHLM teams duke it out in a best-of-three playoff to enter the VHLM post-season, and despite Perought's Rush being on the losing end, he was the best player for either team in the whole series. In all three games, Perought faced a total of 187 shots, which averages out to 62 per game; not only this, but his Save % was .925 in the series, which is absolutely ridiculous. Perought will need to play like he did in that series for Team Europe if they want to achieve their gold-medal hopes, as the teams overall defense may not stack up as well as other nations in the tournament.

 

 

Defense - Nicodemus Raven - Team Mercenaries @Fowll

Despite not playing the entire VHLM season, the Latvian defender Nicodemus Raven has put up some decent numbers, scoring 43 points in 64 games, showcasing his potent offensive ability as a puck-moving defender. Raven has continued this strong play into the post-season, and currently has 8 points in 8 games for the Ottawa Lynx. He is the 4th defenseman of a relatively young Mercenaries defense, which consists of Roman Solokov, Alexander Thrower, and Pavel Komarov. Raven will certainly be looking to raise his draft stock in the tournament, as he currently sits at 6th as of the last VHLSC Draft Rankings.

 

 

Center - Mattias Forsberg - Team Scandinavia @Banackock

The lone S55 draftee for Team Scandinavia, is a fundamentally sound player who seems to definitely fly under the media radar. The Swede put up 64 points in 72 games this season for the Oslo Storm, and then put up 4 points in 5 games for the Storm in the postseason. Forsberg is your typical Swedish center, a smooth skater who is responsible in both ends, and can put up a decent amount of points. Don't look for him to exactly light it up in the World Cup though, as his linemates are VHLM-lifers Apollo Aho and Jack Kraken ICE; Forsberg has a bright future ahead of him, just maybe not for this World Cup though.
