Tagger 2,722
So I was going to do a chronicling of my entire VHL career to this point, but realised that the word count was going through the roof, so I’m going to split this up into separate parts and keep writing about it in the ensuing weeks. The Preencarnacion Era While I'm obviously associated here with the three Encarnacions I created, Encarnacion was actually the third player I created in this league. My first attempt was back around Season 11 with a player called Rohan Davey, who was named after a quarterback in the NFL (backup for the New England Patriots) and NFL Europe. I remember submitting a graphic of Matt Bentz and a biography and never adding the ensuing TPE I earned from them. At the time though, this was when I was in the International Sim League and numerous other football leagues (back when they were good), so I wasn’t able to split my time well enough to maintain activity in the VHL. My second player was a Season 31 player named Ron Dayne III which was the name of a player I had a lot of success with in the Madden Football Association, a league which was run by @Advantage. However, hockey was definitely not my thing and I yet again never added any TPE to Dayne after submitting a graphic (a tremendous paint sig of Ron Dayne III complete with hockey stick accompanied by drawn text saying “Got wood?”) although that didn’t stop my player being drafted in the fourth round of the Season 31 Draft by the New York Americans, managed at that time by @Devise. The Encarnacion Era I can’t properly remember my reasoning for re-joining the VHL with Edwin Encarnacion, but I get the feeling it was because I wanted to return to sim leagues but there were no football leagues at the time. I do remember though that it took me a while to find a team as no-one was prepared to give me a spot on a VHLM roster for the remainder of S33. I was drafted with the eighteenth overall pick of the S34 VHLM Draft, which wasn’t unexpected but is funny in hindsight considering, over the course of my career, I would go on to earn more TPE than 14 of the 17 players drafted ahead of me (including the first overall pick of that VHLM draft class). I was drafted to the Saskatoon Wild who, in short, were the worst team in the league and had a GM who didn’t really contribute all that often in the LR (pretty sure he stepped down/was replaced during the following season) but luckily I was able to share a LR with Conner Low (@Smarch) and despite us two being the only people in the LR, we were able to turn it into a fun and active forum, complete with paint graphics threatening to burn down the VHLM Practice Facility and shoot the VHLM TPE Index. While my first season took a while to get going (that off-season was when we got the DDOS that moved us to our current forum), I was drafted fifth overall by the Riga Reign. While I started off by continuing my good earning pace that saw me make the VHL without a second full VHLM season, my activity took a sharp dip when I was assigned to a job that I didn’t want to do (in short, I’d been forced to move to 3AM-Midday Thursday-Monday shifts from my 9AM-6PM Monday-Friday shifts) which led to me taking a break from sim leagues as I needed to put my full focus into getting a job that wouldn’t treat me like complete garbage. I did feel somewhat bad for @Mike (the GM who drafted me) and @gregreg (who traded for me unknowing of my pending leave of absence) but I had to get my life sorted out first and foremost and unfortunately that meant sacrificing my sim league activity (It was worth it in the end though as since I found my new job (which I’m still at), I’ve gone on to have multiple memorable players in the league). While I fully understand why I was traded at the deadline, I can't help but look back and wonder what would've happened if I'd had stayed active, as Encarnacion was on pace to break a few season records while at Riga, but those records became unattainable once I was traded to Seattle where I was the fourth best defenseman on the roster. Smarch 3,194
You were a big reason that low is in the HOF. Low was the best VHLM experience I had and it started when I joined the Wild at the deadline. Your player name automatically drew me to like you as I'm a Blue Jaw fan and then you just were a generally good dude. Glad I had that experience Edited July 21, 2017 by Smarch Tagger 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/42281-a-history-of-my-experience-with-the-vhl-part-1/#findComment-453681 Share on other sites
Tyler 885
Rohan Davey was one of the worst madden qb's ever if my memory is correct right up there with Jared Lorenzen from the Giants Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/42281-a-history-of-my-experience-with-the-vhl-part-1/#findComment-453685 Share on other sites
