It's kind of one of those things where if you see the tab, you think about it, and then you go on. If I have to close the tab when I'm not actively on the site, I forget about it (which I had to do when we had chat, because people would otherwise chat me constantly - @Bring Back Chat can vouch for how many times he used to chat me and I wouldn't get back to him for hours, which was because I had the tab open but wasn't on it).
