Calgary, AB- With league announcements aflutter, Calgary has received some of the biggest news in the league in the past 48 hours. First, they were notified that their franchise was part of the league's contraction, reducing the total number of teams from 10 to 8, the original size that the league started with! However, the city itself was not losing it's franchise, just the team and everyone who was a part of it for the past decade of seasons. Instead, they would be trading assets with the Stockholm Vikings, and Stockholm would be no more. With the assets moving to Calgary, one key piece was expected to be rising star defender, Mats Johnsson.

 

Late last night, new Wranglers GM Tyler Barabash extended a qualifying offer to the would be RFA Mats Johnsson. Just minutes ago, Johnsson responded by declining the offer and officially qualifying as the league's first Restricted Free Agent in years, adding to all the news that is already flooding VHL fans' home screens! Where will he sign? Will Calgary match an offer-sheet? Who kicked my dog? It seems we will need to wait until Free Agency officially opens to find the answers to these questions!

 

Edit: I'm leaving for a vacation tonight, and won't have access to a computer/time to really write any kind of articles next week, so I'm posting this now. I should be able to check in and see what's up though, so I'll be able to sign a contract at pretty much any point

Since teams need to hold the picks to be able to offer, I'm suddenly curious whether "next year's draft" would mean S58 or S59 in this case

Seeing how FA opens after the draft, gonna be S59
