Rush Limp Into Playoffs

 

The Yukon Rush were a team full of promise entering the Season Fifty-Eight VHLM Dispersal Draft. Before bringing on Conner Low as General Manager, the Rush were able to acquire seven picks in the draft. The trouble started for Low and the Rush from there. Those draft picks included the second and third overall pick, which the Rush grabbed two gems in The Charm and Luc-Pierre Lespineau-Lebrunette who are to of the best players currently on the Rush roster.  After those two great picks in the first round by Low, he then went off the deep end and tried to take some players represented by newer agents to the VHL. Low drafted wingers Yandall Beast and Kevin Knight, both of whom have disappeared from all team activities since the draft concluded. After the blunder that occurred with the Seventh and Eighth Overall picks, Low turned his attention to Round Three, where the Rush picked Twelfth and Thirteenth. With two goalies left on the draft board, Low used his first pick in the Third Round to select goaltender Sir Galahad, a promising goalie that was active when drafted, even appearing in the Rush locker-room post draft. The Rush then selected Latvian centerman Varis Tribuncovs, a player that is turning out to be the steal of the Season Fifty-Eight VHLM Dispersal Draft. Tribuncovs has turned into a quality depth piece in his first season in the VHLM, as he put up sixty-nine points in seventy-two games this season. While the Rush exited the draft with three active players, it hasn’t been enough to help them this season.

 

How many winning formations like this are left in Yukon?

 

The Rush finished the season in fourth place this season with sixty-eight points, and well they didn’t play as many expected this was their highest point total since they ended season fifty-three with 115 points. The Rush got off to a poor start this season, which ultimately did help their cause during the season. The Rush lost eight of their first ten games this season, a stretch that saw them give up almost twenty more goals then they scored. The Rush were inconsistent in their play each night and were unable to get on a roll needed to move up in the standings, as their longest winning streak of the season only reached five games. The Rush were the only VHLM club this past season to have only one roster player register over 100 points, with the five other clubs having a combined nineteen players over 100 points, with three players even registering over 200 points. To say the Rush were underachievers offensively would be an understatement in Season Fifty-Eight.

 

There were some bright spots that came out of Yukon this season, but they are few and far between. One of those bright spots would have to be the play of defenseman Ho Lee Fook. Fook signed with the Rush during the off-season to anchor the back-end for the VHLM club, and he did that and more for the Rush this season.  Fook led the team in points with 111and shots blocked with 217. Being only one of two defenseman on the roster for the majority of the season, Fook also led the team with a outstanding 31.60 average minutes per game.

The Rush will now look straight into the eye of one of the best VHLM teams of all time in the Ottawa Lynx, a team that lost only six times in regulation this season. Many around the league are getting their brooms ready for this series, but Yukon hopes to challenge the Lynx and push them to their limit.
