TheLastOlympian07 2,388
Season 50 was a historic season in the sim league world as no other community reached the half century mark. Now with that being said let us take a look at the trades that took place during the Season 50 season. We will see which names were traded and which GM's won said trade since there is always a debate of who is the better GM when it comes to trades. To Cologne Express: D - Arcturus Mengsk S52 2nd Round Pick To Seattle Bears: S52 1st Round Pick Overview: The Cologne Express were in the middle of a push that would see them finish 1st in the European Conference. With the Bears on the outside looking in the N.A Conference, the Express saw the need to shore up the defense so a simple trade was made for Mengsk. Mengsk didn't exactly set the world on fire in his new home but he did score 18 goals and assisted on 13 goals for 33 points in 64 games. He provided the depth that was needed for Cologne at a relatively cheap price. The Express ended up 1st in the European Conference and it seemed the trade worked out fine for Cologne. In the playoffs, the Express were given the bye into the Semi's and awaited the winner out of the Riga Reign vs HC Davos Dynamo. The Dynamo ended up winning that series in 6. This series was going to be one that seemed to be going 7 but the Dynamo surprised everyone by winning in 6. Mengsk had 4 assists in the 6 games. Not the ending the team wanted. The next season, Mengsk proved his worth with the Express. The Express finished 2nd in the European Conference with 104 points while a full season with Mengsk saw him scored 39 goals and assist on 49 goals for 88 points. Very good 2nd line player for the Express. The Express finishing 2nd, had them play the Dynamo in the quarterfinals, in which it was a quick and painless sweep. In the 2nd round though, it would be a tough match against the Riga Reign. This series went the full 7 games but saw the Reign come out on top. Mengsk scored 6 goals and assisted on 3 goals for 9 points in 11 games. Mengsk has been providing solid depth in his two seasons in Germany. Season 52 saw the sell off of the Express but Mengsk remained and saw the Express finish 2nd once again in the Euro Conference but that says more about how weak it was. Mengsk scored 33 goals and assisted on 25 goals for 58 points which was a decent amount but just not as much as his previous total with the team. That seemed like a outlier now. The Express would play the Dynamo once more in the playoffs and would win in 5 games. The Express then moved onto play the Reign once again and in no surprising order, the Reign would dispose of the Express in 5 games. Mengsk regained some of his scoring touch with 6 goals and 7 assists for 13 points in 10 games. Let's not forget about the Season 52 2nd Round Pick the Express got from Seattle. The pick turned out to be 16th overall and was used on Tomas Syndergaard. Syndergaard though, didn't enjoy the same success with the Express as Mengsk as the team was entering a rebuild. However, after the draft, Syndergaard was called up to play for the Express right away and played in two seasons in which he scored 11 goals and assisted on 44 goals for 55 points in 144 games. Mengsk called it a career at the end of Season 52 and he would retire after played 2 3/4 seasons with the Express. During this time he scored 90 goals, assisted on 87 goals for 177 points in 208 games. The 1st Round Pick sent to Seattle? Was sent to the Quebec City Meute who used the pick on Edwin Threencarnacion. Who was a career backup by choice. Going the other way in the trade? Thor Odinsson. So in reality it was Arcturus Mengsk and Tomas Syndergaard for Thor Odinsson. Even looking at it that way, I think Cologne wins this trade because simply Mengsk was the best player in he trade and he played multiple seasons for Cologne. Verdict Yes Odinsson was a big part of Seattle when he was there. This is looking strictly at what those involved in the did for the teams. Mengsk put up 177 points for Cologne while making it to three straight conference finals. He was the best player in the trade and normally when the team acquiring the best player in the trade, they usually win. @Banackock 0-1 @gregreg 1-0 800 Words Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/48199-claimed-season-50-trades-pt1-12/ Share on other sites
DollarAndADream 3,357
Review: I remember Mengsk as a pretty good player, but I feel like he was underrated across the VHL. Solid breakdown of this trade. Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/48199-claimed-season-50-trades-pt1-12/#findComment-530416 Share on other sites
