Tagger 2,722
1) Where was Michael Kincaid for Most Improved? While nothing can take away how much Jasper Canmore improved between S58 and S59, it's weird that the player who would have provided the toughest competition to Canmore wasn't even on the ballot. In Season 59, Michael Kincaid scored 19 more points than he did in his previous two seasons combined, and finished 5th in points for a defenseman having finished 18th in points at the position the previous season. In comparison to the other two players who were on the ballot (Daring Do only improved by 25 points in comparison to Kincaid's 34 and saw his hits, his most notable strength, more than half. Casey Jones tallies only went up by seventeen points over Season 58), I can only assume Kincaid was accidentally overlooked by the voting committee. 2) What is a former Labatte winning defenseman even doing on the ballot for Most Improved? While Kincaid being missed off the ballot is likely a case of oversight, having Casey Jones on the ballot in the first place seems more of a case of the voting committee not thinking things through correctly or maybe not understanding what the award is about (Something that can happen when a lot of new blood is brought in). Jones has already won a Labatte and he finished Season 59 a whole 25 points off the tally that saw him win that award in Season 57. Even if Jones had tallied figures rivaling his Season 57 tally, we've had prior precedence where we don't consider a player for the award who has more "returned to form" than improved (See Phil Hamilton in S51 and Jorma Ruutu in S49), so to see him up for an award for Most Improved when he hasn't even gotten close to his best season is a little confusing. 3) How does one vote for Fook Yu over Franchise Cornerstone for Two-Way Forward of the Year? Unlike Boubabi, I believe there are arguments that can be made for DeGrath beating Cornerstone in Most Outstanding Player of the Year. Given the nature of their performances in comparison to their team, I believe that there are even more arguments that you can make for DeGrath beating Cornerstone for MVP. However, Cornerstone not sweeping the Boulet voting is confusing and should be considered a disappointment that some of those in the voting committee allowed their feelings towards a member to sway their decision making. Kendrick 4,741
2) Reason i didn't vote for Jones was because of the Improved tag. To improve you would've had to have a shitty season early in your career and take a jump. Not just have a bad year after a great season. It's not "bounce back" its "improved. So I agree there Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/48770-the-three-award-voting-questions-i-have/#findComment-518959 Share on other sites
