Born in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, Oleksiy Revchenko has made a name for himself around his town and his country and one of the more exciting young hockey players to ever come out of Ukraine. As a youth, Revchenko played both soccer and hockey but quickly quit soccer to focus on his better sport which was hockey. Coached by his father, Revchenko shot up the ranks of the youth hockey scene in Ukraine and at the age of 14, signed his first professional contract with Odessa playing for their under 16 team. Revchenko, known for his smart play and passing ability quickly moved into the starting Center role for the team and excelled on the first line for years, moving through the ranks, playing with Odessa throughout his young career. While extremely talented and dominant in Ukrainian professional hockey, Revchenko moves to make a name for himself in the world's top league, the VHL. Time will tell how his game will translate playing against the top talents in the world but Revchenko is confident and skillful enough to become a premier center in the league for years to come. Revchenko signed with Las Vegas in season 60 and was reclaimed by Las Vegas in the season 61 dispersal draft as they would like to keep a player of his skills around. He has much success last season in shortened time with the Aces in the regular season and in the playoffs and looks to lead the team forward this upcoming season.

Pros:

Passing: Out of all the skills Revchenko possesses, passing is what makes him what he is. As a center, he is able to fit the puck in the right places to set his teammates up for scoring chances. He holds the Ukrainian under 16 and under 18 records for assists in a season and only played half a season for the under 20 team while gearing up for coming to the VHL through the VHLM. In Ukraine, Revchenko worked with Wingers who were not the most talented but Revchenko's passing ability made up for their lack of ability and helped his line's wingers to both be in the top 5 in goals scored while playing for the under-18 Odessa squad. Given more talented wingers, Revchenko can be a force and lead the league in assists in the right situation.

Puck Handling: Oleksiy is a bigger player at 204 lbs but moves much quicker than he looks and is considered tops of his class when it comes to puck handling. This helps with his passing ability as he is able to weave through players controlling the puck before dumping it off to a teammate for the score or find a scoring opportunity for himself. While his puck handling is still improving and needs some work against higher level VHL defensemen, it is one of the better skills he possesses and in Ukraine, top notch.

Determination: The young Revchenko has always worked hard throughout his life and his hockey career. He knew that hockey with his sport and knew this at a young age and put in the hard work to make the jump from youth hockey player to young star in Ukraine and then to a top prospect for the VHL. This determination is shown by the growth in his skills and also in the faceoff circle as he is strong with faceoffs as he wants the puck more than anyone else. His will and determination bleeds on to his teammates and makes them play better and his work ethic rubs off on teammates in the right way. Just having Revchenko on the ice can make the team a lot better.

Cons:

Scoring: While his abilities certainly suggest that Oleksiy could be a talented goal scorer, he has not been a top-flight goal scorer as a young professional. He is hesitant to take shots and much prefers to pass to his teammates even when wide open for the shot. His underlying abilities suggest he may be able to develop his goal-scoring prowess but he will most likely be a center that triples his goals scored with his assists as he always has been.

Hitting: Revchenko is aggressive in his skating and his face off ability but does not check opponents as often as he could. He is more known for poke checking than he is body checking or hip checking, etc. It is not that he is afraid to hit, he just does not do it often. Given his bigger frame, Revchenko can have some success hitting the opponent when the opportunity comes up but for now, it is a major weakness in his game although there could be more crucial weaknesses such as his scoring ability above. As he progresses, his checking ability should improve a bit and hitting opponents will be more likely. He needs to develop his strength and use it.

Defense: Revchenko is not known for being a defensive player, a big part due to his checking inabilities. Revchenko is an offensive-minded player and this shows on the rink as skaters can usually get by him with some ease. This is a part of his game that he has not really focused on but with his work ethic, should be able to improve. While it is not too crucial to be a great defender as a center, one should have some ability with it and looks to improve his defense somewhat. He won't be a great defender but given his offensive skills, adding defense will only make him more dominant moving forward.
