Senior Admin Will 4,660 Posted June 25, 2018 Senior Admin Share Posted June 25, 2018 SCOUTING REPORT: G - Roger Sterling Basic Information Age: 26 Height: 6'0" Weight: 200 lbs. Handedness: Left Position: Goaltender Roger Sterling is a 26 year old net-minder hailing from Halifax, NS, Canada. Declaring eligibility for the VHLM at the beginning of S60, Sterling's first opportunity playing professional level hockey was with the Las Vegas Aces where he played for the entirety of S60. In the S61 VHL Entry Draft, Roger Sterling was selected 4th Overall by the Seattle Bears where he is currently the starting goaltender. Strengths Speed: If there was ever a doubt that Sterling belongs as a goaltender, watching his reflexes quickly extinguish it. His lightning speed and impressive agility allow him to move across the crease quickly and efficiently. A true hybrid-style goaltender, Sterling has no trouble keeping up with the fast pace of the game and keeping himself between the puck and the back of the net. Style: Roger Sterling is definitely a hybrid-style goalie, but with his own unique finesse which he has, by all accounts, mastered. He always appears completely composed and in control of his style, executing consistently and effectively. Potential: Despite his strengths, Sterling still has a long road to being a top-tier goaltender - but his work ethic and drive are certainly worth mentioning as a strength because it is clear that he will continue to improve over time. It is important that his current position with the Bears organization has given him some time refine his skillset and improve before it really matters as they're currently going through the re-building phase. There's no doubt it my mind that Sterling will be ready when the time comes. Weaknesses Experience: Roger is only his first VHL season and, prior to this, his only professional-level experience was with the Las Vegas Aces. He definitely still has room (and necessity) to grow as a player before he can be considered an elite-level goaltender. Confidence: While some confidence is good and, frankly, required in this sport - it is possible that Sterling's confidence comes borderlines excessive. He is a hardworker and has the potential to be as good as he makes himself out to be, but he isn't there yet and it remains to be seen whether or not thinking he is already there will hinder him in actually getting there. Discipline: Sterling is very disciplined when it comes to controlling his play-style and making saves. However, he lacks discipline when it comes to the gritty stuff. He's easy for players to provoke a reaction from and in the VHLM amassed a lot of penalty minutes for fighting with players and taking cheap shots. That may be acceptable to GMs at the VHLM level but he should get his temper under control if he is to be successful in the VHL. Conclusion Roger Sterling is perhaps the most promising up-and-coming goaltender in the VHL right now. With several older net-minders well on their way to retirement, the field will be clear for a new king of the net to be crowned and it would be an understatement to say that Roger Sterling is gunning for that spot. He isn't there yet but, in time, it would be a reasonable assumption to say that he will be. Exlaxchronicles 415
Bang up job on the whole profile Will! All sentence structure and phrasing is great and punctuation seems spot on. Only one comma seemed out of place in the whole write up. Awesome profile and with a pic it would've risen to stellar!
