Dan Montgomery is just your average everyday guy, he wakes up in the morning, eats a banana with peanut butter, laces up his *sponsored* Adidas signature shoes, and heads to the rink for his morning skate. He's currently focusing on his ability to move the puck into the zone, strength on his Faceoffs, and putting pucks on, and in the net. He sees that as not only the strongest part of his game, but the part that needs the most work, especially with the upcoming VHL draft.

See for Montgomery, the VHL is just a mystery, a bunch of hearsay, of what professional, high level hockey can be. Yeah sure, he's had his time to talk to current and former VHLer's, and he's been developing his game in his first VHLM season, but he really hasn't had the opportunity to lace up his skates and go toe to toe with the best -simulated- players in the world.

Montgomery has seen his name in the news recently as a top prospect, being projected as an early 2nd round selection due to his status as VHLM GM, and his quick progression through the "activity ranks" among new, first time VHLers. A lot of people would say this amount of pressure is too much to put on a young player like Montgomery, but what does he think? When asked about his rising stock in @DollarAndADream's new VHL mock draft, as the 7th ranked player overall, Montgomery responded being both humble, and confident. He said that he expects to be there, in fact, he expects to be higher. He's gotten to play alongside great prospects such as Vega, Twinger, and Kovalev, and seen what true greatness is, all in his short time in Yukon. Dan really has been emphasizing that he knows he has doubters, but also, that these doubters motivate him. Right above his locker in Yukon he has an outdated poster that says "Haterz R My Motivaterz" spelled incorrectly with a backwards R. Montgomery feels that embracing these mistakes in poster printing, as well as the intended message are good for the up and coming superstar, and are lessons he plans on taking into the VHL, and throughout his professional career.

When teams were scouting him, a GM asked him "Why should we pick you?" and he responded "Don't and see how it works out for you", a quote he admittedly stole from his icon, New York Islanders Center, and Calder Trophy recipient Mat Barzal. Dan really has been trying to emulate Barzal's game, quick and strong on his skates, with finesse to finish up close; however, Montgomery wants to be his own skater, and separate himself from the pack. Sure, right now he probably isn't a point per game scorer, but as the 3rd best Center on this Yukon team, he sure looks forward to bringing home the Founder's Trophy for the great fans in Yukon. Montgomery said "individual achievements, draft picks, MVP trophies, those all come second. What I'm here for is to win championships, and come next week that's exactly what I plan on helping the Rush do. Where I am next year, I'll worry about next year, but teams can expect me to give 110% and be the best player I can be."
