Legion Rookies [2/2]

Toronto's Rookie Campaigns

Despite having a lackluster season, the Toronto Legion had a promising developmental phase this year. While nobody expected them to go anywhere in S61, they had some players make their debuts in the VHL, and they are hoping to continue to make their mark over the course of their careers.

One of those players is defenseman Sebastian Ironside. Ironside never really blew anyone away in the VHLM, although he did have a great outing, winning Playoff MVP after a losing effort in a 7 game series. Coming into the VHL, it was not expected for Sebastian to have a ton of success, considering the lack of a decent goaltender or any real forward presence. Sebastian Ironside put up 42 points in 72 games, including 13 goals. Those are not horrible numbers for a rookie defenseman on a bad team, but they do not impress a whole lot either. He was 8th in rookie scoring, although he was also the 2nd best rookie defenseman, so there is that. He was only behind Samuel Gate in rookie defense scoring, and Gate had 57 points, so he did not get blown away either. One interesting stat is that Ironside was 2nd in shots blocked in the whole VHL, with 208. I suppose being out there for almost all defensive minutes will get you there, but that is still impressive nonetheless. He also had 212 hits, which is just out of the top 10 in the VHL, and had 123 penalty minutes, putting him 6th in that category as well.

The Legion had another rookie defenseman on the roster as well, and that is Lew Bronstein. Bronstein had much less pressure on his shoulders than Ironside, and he managed to put up 37 points with 9 goals. That is a pretty great effort for a guy who is penciled in for the future as more of a depth piece. Obviously, Bronstein will be able to push for a ton of minutes on the Legion, so Toronto has hopes for him. Lew also had 188 hits and 167 blocked shots, which are great numbers for a rookie. He was just behind Ironside in penalty minutes with 121, putting him 7th in the VHL in that category.

Not only did Toronto have 2 rookie defensemen on the roster, but they also had a forward make his debut. Varis Tribuncovs started in the VHL this season. 'Tribby' tore up the VHLM for multiple seasons, although now in the VHL is developing into more of a depth scorer for the future. If he starts to show more effort in training camp in the future, he will be given more minutes. For this season he did not have much help on offense as a rookie, and his numbers show that. He had 25 points in 57 games, which include 16 goals. Obviously that is not a full season of hockey, and he was not expected to show a ton out there, so that is a successful season, all things considered. Tribuncovs was 10th in rookie scoring, even scoring a hat trick this season, and is up there with the league's best in shot percentage with 11.03% success rate. He also managed to win 51.07% of his face offs as a rookie, putting himself in the top 10 in that area as well.

These numbers definitely did not blow anyone away, but they put Toronto on the map for the future. Sebastian Ironside and Lew Bronstein will be great defensemen in Toronto for many seasons to come, and one they get some help on forward and goaltending, the Legion will be good to go. Toronto's defense will surely be bolstered with the arrival of Robert Malenko next season as well.

Ironside should be in the running for rookie of the year, considering his offensive production on a club that lacked any depth.

Gate had more talent around him  but then the judges probably only look highly at scoring and not enough at all the other factors involved.

I'd be happy to play for your team next year if I so get traded in the off season.

Nice write up DnD. The sentence structure is good and you make and get your point across  for the topic.

Your punctuation seems to be all in order as well.

Having a nice pic to go along with it makes it look more professional.
