jRuutu 2,478
Exciting day and exciting draft over, I got picked on the first round by Quebec Meute. I knew I had a solid chance to get picked on the first round after seeing various rankings leading up to the draft, but it´s still a special moment to hear your name being called out so early. The actual destination was not as big shock, I talked with couple teams before the draft and Quebec was one of them, so had a rough idea that the team who picks me is one of the teams I had positive talks with. I´m happy that Quebec picked me and already looking forward to starting the upcoming season with the Meute. I think we got something special going on here, a lot of talented players joined the team from last nights draft and on top of that, the organization did a trade where Rayne and Komarov joins the team from New York, then when you add the players who are continuing their careers in Quebec - we got a chance to surprise many right away and more importantly, we got a chance to build a real dynasty into Quebec. Personally I still have some way to go before I´m on the level I know I can play on, before the draft many were questioning can a hockey player who does not really have the passing or shooting skills make it in VHL, but those areas have never been on my arsenal and I doubt they will be anytime soon. My strengths are on the defensive end and I believe the possibilities of having a defensive specialist in the team is what got me the first round selection in the draft. I give the skilled players more time to do their thing, I´m little bit like N´Golo Kante on skates - don´t see me on the highlights, but when the puck is turned over and other team is starting a counter attack - I´m going to be there, when there is a faceoff at the end of the game - I´m going to be there and shovel it home. Still early days in my career of course and as mentioned - still have a long way to go, but I´m excited to see if I´m able to translate my game from juniors to VHL and be that difference maker on the defensive end. Game is faster and tougher in the top level when the players are faster and stronger, but that also means I get to play with players who are some of the best in the whole league. I don´t know who my linemates will be on the upcoming season, but the idea of getting to play on the same line with players like Dragomir, Louth, Harding, Komarov, Slipher etc makes me feel all kinds of good. Especially playing with Harding again could be really fun, we both were part of the group who brought glory to Oslo last season when we won the championship in VHLM, so really helps when I already know one of the players in the team - who knows, maybe we even get to play on the same line? Harding likes to hit bit more than me, but I reckon we could be one of the most annoying lines to play against, Harding goes for the hits aggressively while I cover for him if he misses - tasty.
