Early Years

Sidney Crosby hasn’t always been one to watch. Born in 2000 in a rather unpopulated area of Florida, Crosby could have sunk into the farm life and gotten lost in the family business. His father, Troy, and mother, Trina, owned 1000 acres in the middle of Florida and were active farmers. Because of the rural lifestyle, Crosby was homeschooled for most of his life. On the farm his parents raised all kinds of animals from chickens to cattle and as soon as young Sid was old enough to start working on the farm his parents put him to work. At first Crosby loved it. He loved going out and feeding the animals and even started to name them. His favorite task was going and collecting eggs and milk for breakfast. But as he got older the enjoyment quickly faded. It became more of a chore than an activity he enjoyed doing. This is when Sid looked to something else to fulfill himself.

From Homeschool to High School

When Crosby was at the age to go to high school he wanted to quit homeschooling and go to a real high school and make some human friends. His parents resisted, arguing that they really needed the help on the farm. It was one summer night that Crosby decided his future. He packed his bags and snuck out in the middle of the night. It wasn’t a hard life but it wasn’t the life Crosby wanted. He longed for something more than the farmer life. He walked down the road trying to hitch a ride, but he did live on the middle of nowhere, so he had a long walk. Eventually a car came by and picked him up and took him to his aunt’s house which was in the city. His parents called every night begging for her to take their son back to the farm, but she was set on giving him some space. After days of begging his aunt was convinced to let him stay. The next day Crosby enrolled at Fort Myers High School.

Roller Hockey Foundation

At first, he was an outcast. The farmer kid who had no friends and very little human interaction in the beginning of his life. It was one fateful day during his third week where he saw a roller hockey club poster on the bulletin board and it was on. Florida is known for being stupidly hot for most of the year and there are not many indoor ice rinks to go around. For this reason, roller hockey is very popular among the hockey loving circles. Crosby fit in quickly and learned of his insane hockey skills. He quickly found home on defense as he was a natural born protector. Crosby started on the third line as a newby on the block. It wasn’t long for his defensive prowl to show. He quickly gained a name for his aggressive defense and his ability to break down 1 v 1 opportunities. In his second year of high school as well as his second season, Crosby was promoted to the second line and beat out the man above him to eventually move to the first line. The first half of the season he lit up the rink. The Fort Myers Green Wave Roller Hockey team had something special. They made it all the way to the state finals where Sidney Crosby had the game of his life. There were all sorts of scouts in the stands looking for the right talent. After a hard-fought game, the Green Wave lost a close one 3-2.

From Roller Success to Ice Hockey

Crosby got the itch after being so close in his sophomore year. After gaining the role of team captain, Crosby led his team to back-to-back State Championships. The Florida Everblades noticed his defensive excellence and wanted to give him a chance. Crosby proved he could skate better on ice than on roller blades. His skills he learned as captain of the Green Wave helped him once again become an established name in the Everblades locker room. During his first season Crosby look unstoppable recording team highs in hits and passes completed. His passing was impeccable and led to him recording a high number of assists for a defenseman. Despite a solid season for Crosby, the Everblades were never really in contention to make the playoffs. This was not the case in his second season with the Blades. He once again led in passes completed but this year he also led the team in assists. Sid was moved to the first line and penalty kill and helped sure up the team defensively. While being a part of a penalty kill that had a league high 86% kill percentage Crosby helped propel the Blades deep into the playoffs. They breezed through the first two rounds and the Eastern Conference Finals and were left with a stout opponent, The Greenville Swamprabbits. Crosby had a quite game 1 and 2 and splitting these games 1-1, he came out of nowhere the next 3 games. Scoring 3 goals and recording 5 assists through these 3 games tied up the MVP award for Crosby after already having a stellar postseason. When he lifted the Kelly Cup a fire lit in his heart and he wanted more.

Everblades And Beyond…

With one disappointing season and one successful season in the books, Crosby wanted more. With over 100 games in the books in the ECHL Crosby had 67 assists, over 200 hits, 14 goals, and a modest plus/minus of +15. While he enjoyed his time with the Everblades he wanted a taste of the next level. The most logical next move for the kid was the VHLM. He has submitted his paperwork and hopes to get an opportunity in the big boy league one day. Now he waits for someone to take a chance on his raw talent so that he can have in parents in the stands and prove to them it was all worth it. If not, he may reunite one day with them on the farm and live out his days milking cows and collecting eggs.
