Who really fucking knows if Matt is short for Matthew. I mean, it is in some - likely most cases, but in the case of Matt Thompson, is it? Similar to the "who really fucking knows", we should probably also add "who fucking cares" (unless maybe he does). We we do know and what a majority of VHL lovers know is that he's turned into one hell of a player. Drafted 1st overall by the Seattle Bears a couple seasons ago, he's quickly made a name for himself in the Bears sweater. While potentially not earning it at the time, he likely has by now earned the right to carry the "C" crested to his chest and does so in amazing fashion. Thompson managed two seasons in the VHLM - one being a weird one with 20 GP and zero points touched on it. Not sure what the fuck is going on there but we're thinking it can't be true. Is it a fuck up for the portal? who knows but I'm not going to look because I want these fucking PT's done. It's Sunday. I'm tired, hanging with the dog, got some shit to do later on and then want to relax with a  beer while trying out this new show.

But, back to Thompson. His next season, or maybe only season in the VHLM (hehe) he played not too shabby. He earned 63 points through 72 games. While this isn't amazing and you'd expect more from a 1st overall player, it isn't that bad either and I'm sure while not super happy, he'll take it. Any accolade and achievement is good, but that's not bad. Now, moving forward into his rookie season in the VHL - all eyes were on him, even his own. The Bears struggled mightily out of the gate (just like Sterling and how we blamed everything on the current state of the team, same shit applies here) and it didn't do any justice to his stats. 33 goals, 23 assist and 56 points through the Bears shitty 72 game season. Now, that's not terrible and comparing it to Cast and Smirnov is unfair because honestly, they should be drug tested, but there's nothing wrong with that. He replicated his season down in the VHLM, but did it in a much harder league where he wasn't one of the better players. In my opinion, not great but not bad either. It was a pretty solid campaign with all things considered.

You leap into this year though and you can truly see the fast development. 67 goals, 70 assists and 137 points so far and he still has 6 games to go. He has more goals and/or assists this year than he had total points last year. He's doubled that shit and it's absolutely crazy. If he's not the most improved player, I'll jump off a bridge or microwave a fork while bathing because shit. Cast has done some crazy shit, but he hasn't improved quite as much as Thompson. For point production, I'd say Thompson went from a 4 to an obvious 10. For Cast, he was already a star player who made a name for himself offensively so went from a 8.5 to a 10. Matthew Thompson is the clear winner here. Or Matt. or Matty. Yeah.

No mistake on my first VHLM season. I signed with a stacked team to win a cup and played mediocre minutes and terribly at that.

Review:

Thompson definitely exploded. Hell, a lot of players did that season. Twinger is definitely seeing the sophomore slump himself.

Matt Thompson is a great player. Nice read.
