The end of the S62 playoffs is nearly here and that means one thing - the S62 World Cup is just around the corner. As the VHL's national teams have started to announce their rosters and gather the players for training sessions, alarming news have come out of the Team Europe camp. Already a difficult concept in the age of Brexit, tensions flared particularly between the team's large British and Irish contingents. It seems that the centuries-old rivalry has come to the forefront here and threatens to tear the team apart. Star centers Podrick Cast (from England) and The Charm (from Ireland) have led the hostilities and have ignited a flame which has divided the European team into two very bitter camps.

At the moment, it looks like no resolution is close and that puts young GM Joseph McWolf in a difficult position of having to manage a team which has not intention of functioning as one. The current compromise appears to be to split British and Irish players on different lines, but how will the hierarchy work? Being a Brit himself, McWolf will be under pressure from the British diaspora to give preferential treatment to his people but must somehow maintain an unbiased position in the eyes of the Irish.

With VHL experts not expecting Europe to be a serious contender for medals, a slow start to the tournament could blow the situation further out of proportion and it will be fascinating to see if the team can put their differences aside or risk imploding midway through the World Cup. Stay tuned.
