A Bond Over the Leaf

There are tons of eras in the Victory Hockey League and some that go down as the best in history. When you look back you'll remember the Hammer era that saw two Jewish defenseman rule the blue line. The classic Shaw/Kanou era that saw two of the leagues most historic goalies go head-to-head every season. Recently we were brought to a sad reality that another era is close to its end. At the conclusion of the season 37 campaign, Ethan Osborne will never step on a VHL ice surface as a player. It was reality that some will have to get used too, but for one man it may be a challenge.

Ethan Osborne is a Canadian born forward out of Peterborough, Ontario and has been destroying the league for the past seven seasons. Most recently Osborne was voted to be the Most Valuable Player for the 36th VHL Campaign. Osborne has been in the spotlight his entire career after going 1st overall back in the season 30 VHL Entry Draft. Ethan is not one to put himself first and it is the main reason he is respected amongst his peers so much. As one of the leaders of team Canada at the VHL World Cup tournament, Ethan found something the rest of the tournament didn't have; a one-two punch.

Osborne [L] and teammates congratulate Taylor [C] on scoring

Into the frame comes a young kid from Medicine Hat, Alberta who is full of energy and youth. Only one season younger but Kameron Taylor collides with another Canadian who is the epitome of class. Taylor who was drafted 2nd overall by the Cologne Express would start a career in the spotlight as well. His career would be a tad different as the first player selected by a VHL expansion team in league history. An era would begin away from their club teams that have gone partially unnoticed.

Ethan Osborne as a rookie played in the season 30 World Cup and played quite well. Osborne had 12 points in his first crack at international hockey. It is in this tournament where he helped his country earn a bronze medal. The next year at orientation camp in preparation for the S32 tournament Ethan would meet a young Kameron Taylor and form a bond over their team’s depth at the center position. Going into the season 32 tournament the two players were nervous but also ready to see what they could achieve together. The same result in a bronze medal made Kameron the happier of the two, as it was his first medal of his young career. Ethan had other thoughts though as he really wanted to gun for the gold in his second time around.

Their club team performances were rising and both were garnering league recognition as leaders f their respective teams. The season 34 World Cup was right around the corner and both players were looked at as huge obstacles for other countries to get over. Ethan and Kameron were hungry for gold and were hoping to build off their past displays on the inter nation stage. This time around though both would see an abrupt end as they finished in a disappointing fifth place and out of medal contention. Taylor and Osborne had 15 points apiece but it was enough to lead their team to victory.

Osborne [L] and Taylor [R] in the S32 World Cup

The season 37 World Cup is the next challenge for Canada to compete in and they may not be with their captain Ethan Osborne. It might be up to his younger prodigy to continue their stellar play as individuals.

"It's sad because I learned a lot from Ethan and he provided me with a comfort when I played on the international stage the first time around. His skill, leadership and other high quality traits will be missed. I just hope he enjoys watching at home and knowing him he will be lounging back cool as a cucumber and snickering if we win. I wish him the best because the definition of class has his picture attached to it", said Taylor post-practice in Cologne.

Just as a quick note. I usually put Season 37 capitalized but the graders before you were saying it doesn't need a capital. Not a complaint but just a inconsistency thing

Content: 3/3 - Ethan Osbourne surely had a positive effect on the people he played with. You show how much Osbourne meant to Taylor in a great way. He'll be sorely missed on VHL ice.
